many thanks to you guys for the info especially BMW - KTM and also the encouragement.

finally fug out the drill this weekend and fit the last screw in. I feel much better about it. it was one of those things that just keeps nagging at you. :)

I would have done the same. My OCD wouldn't have stood the unused hole in the pick guard.

It was tough. every time you pick it up you look at the spot where the hole/screw should be.

I know. You keep telling yourself it is of no consequence but every time you look at it the empty hole gets bigger and and bigger until it seems to engulf the whole guitar so all you see is the empty hole and its deformed emptiness seems to empty your soul in its clamour to be filled....or is that just me?

Nothing feeds the symptoms of OCD like an empty hole.

Nahh, those guys are just being thorough.
A real OCD person might have cut off the head of one screw, and carefully glued it to cover the empty hole, while also maintaining the rarity of a Strat with only 10 pg holes in the body... 8)

And then when he wants to sell it in 15 years, the potential buyer posts pictures here and we tell him that it looks OK, but with the missing hole, it's likely a Partscaster
