I bought the new Player Series Stratocaster and noticed the string tee was different than the old Standard Strat. Both made in Mexico. The old strat has a spacer at the bottom of the tee to keep the strings relatively in line all the way up the headstock to the tuners. The new Player Series does not have the spacer. Therefor, the high E & B strings dip way down towards the headstock, then turn up to the tuner.

Has anyone else noticed this and should I be concerned about it. I want to replace the stock tuners with Fender locking tuners. Both the old & new use staggered tuners, low post hole for the EBG strings and high post hole for the DAE strings.

Any comments?

As a general comment, I'll state the obvious; don't fix it if it ain't broke...

But if that string tree causes any problems, or just bothers you in any way, adding a washer and a longer screw takes a minute, and even changing the whole tree is no biggie. There are probably half a dozen different Fender models to choose from, plus the myriad of other manufacturers.

I agree with "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I was just wondering if my older strat had the tree replaced with the taller one. I bought it used. All the pictures I see don't show a tall tree on the original Strat or the new Player series. So far everything sounds good. I'm just not used to seeing such a big angle going down then up on the Player Strat.

You can always switch to the Fender American Standard String Guides.
They are taller, look better, and are much easier to lube.
I put them on my electric guitars right off the bat.

I have a set of American Standard Trees. They do look nicer than the old butterfly ones. I'll put those on. I see you have a Harmony 80T. I just sold mine. It was a 1982 in excellent condition. I got $375 for it which is more than I paid for it. It was a good guitar. Only thing I didn't like was the plywood body. I sold it to buy the new Player Strat.

Next time I change strings on the Player, I'm going to take off the pick guard and see how they wired in the second tone control so that it only changes the bridge pickup tone. This was a great change for the Player series. But there are no wiring diagrams out yet. I want to make the change to my MIM Standard Strat.

A note to Fender; it's high time to publish all Player series service diagrams/parts lists... :!:

But this one mod should be simple.
Usually, Fender (US) Strats have the T1 for neck pickup, T2 for middle and bridge.
Then again, many models have T1 neck, T2 middle only, leaving the bridge pickup with no tone control - your MIM Standard, for example.
(One option is to wire T1 for neck and bridge pickups, T2 for middle only. And some leave the mid pup, or the neck pup, without a tone control…)
All those are just different wiring options at the switch.

For your homework, to get the general idea, compare some Strat diagrams here: https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... e-Diagrams

(But if you want to skip the learning part: on a MIM Standard, wiring the T2 for both mid and bridge pickups: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/ ... -control-1 )

It was my first electric guitar; paid $100 for it, and a 15 watt Gorilla amp. Too much sentimental value to me to ever consider selling it. I still play it...it's got really hot pickup's, so I grab it when it's "Metal time". LOL! Oh yah; the plywood body makes it the heaviest guitar (by far) in my arsenal.

The 2005 upgrade of the Highway One moves T2 from the middle to the bridge.

Thanks Rich. I printed out the diagram and will make the changes. Looks like this should make the T1 control the neck & middle pup.

Here's some options that Fender has used.
Remember, the switch connections are "upside down" from what you might think... the one closest to the neck (top of the image) is connected to the common when the switch is in the #1/Bridge position.

And the three main options:
