Hi all,

I'm considering a new Roadhouse Strat because I'm a fan of the mid boost circuit on the Clapton Strat.

As far as I know the max boost on the Roadhouse is 12db. After a google search I've read that there is a mod you can do to release the full 25db as featured on the Clapton mid boost.

Has anyone done this? I hear it's just a resistor snip on the V6 switch to release the extra db but which resistor(s)?

Any help appreciated and thanks in advance.

The Roadhouse is a different animal.

The V6 circuit has a rotary switch allowing 6 gain presets from wiry single-coil to scorching lead. The S1 switch on the master volume pot bypasses the built-in active preamp for normal passive operation.

Perhaps you mean Powerhouse?

Yes, it's possible to get the full 25dB boost by removing a pair of resistors from the MDX pot. Their values are 47 kcf and 24 kcf respectively.

Chromeface, thanks so much for this info. I was under the impression that the circuit for the Roadhouse was a mid-boost but with only around half the boost of the Clapton circuit.

This is a new Roadhouse Strat with the 6 position switch on the tone control below the volume/S1 switch. I've removed the scratchplate and had a good look around but can not detect any resistors on any of the pots/circuit boards. Maybe this newer model just doesn't have them or I'm barking up the wrong tree totally?

If I'm unable to modify for the 25db I may well just fit the Clapton mid-boost circuit.

To give you an idea of what's to be expected.

Here's the Deluxe Roadhouse Service Diagram: https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Orig ... 7-2016.pdf
And for comparison, here's the Deluxe Powerhouse SD: https://p4.zdassets.com/hc/theme_assets ... A_SISD.pdf

The "12 to 25 dB" mod for the Powerhouse Strat described in the web means cutting the two resistors on the mid boost control ("tone 2") pot, numbers 19 and 20 on the latter diagram.
Your Roadhouse Strat does not have these resistors, and it also doesn't have the (Clapton/Powerhouse) PCB assy.

So, to my no-wiring-guru brain, the result you're looking for would mean a total electronics replacement for your guitar - possibly including some body routing for the dummy coil.
I don't want to be a buzzkill, but take some serious time to consider. Some caveats: The costs? Can you DIY this? Will the end result be your dream guitar?

BTW, the Clapton/Powerhouse PCB is also used in the Buddy Guy Signature Stratocaster: https://p4.zdassets.com/hc/theme_assets ... A_SISD.pdf
And a BTW to the previous BTW; there's no dummy coil in the Guy/Clapton Strats - I understand that to be because of the Lace/Noiseless pickups don't need that extra noise reduction.

Thanks Jmattis, I get the picture now and I had misunderstood that the electronics for the Roadhouse and Powerhouse were different. :)
The Roadhouse Strat I have is very nice and it has the noiseless pick ups so my plan is to just remove the current scratchplate/electronics and replace with a new one made up with the Clapton mid-boost kit.

I've done the mod before so shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again for your help and time. : )

You can keep the pickguard - unless you want giving your guitar a different look.

Just replace the stock V6 circuitry with the Stratocaster Mid Boost Kit (p/n #0057577000) and swap the S1 switch for a conventional volume knob. The body is already routed for a battery, no further modification is required.

Yep, all good Chromeface. The mid boost kit comes with all of the pots and 5 way switch as well. Just found the kit for 60 GBP so not too bad.

Thanks for your help and input : )

You're welcome.

Once you've finished the mod show us your baby in action by posting a YT video!
