Hi guys,
I got a question: is my Stratocaster a fake.
I got it from a friend who bought it online,
But its just keeps me wondering.

It got a legit serial number, but the body is just so strange, a sunburst with a Black back ? Never seen that.

It also has 2 string guards when fenders have one, or am i wrong ?

It also says noiseless pick ups, but they seem legit.

Can someone help me out here?

That neck is not a legit 2008ish MIM Strat neck, so starting from there, nothing in the guitar can be trusted.
So, IMHO, fake.
(BTW, a serial number for a legit 2008ish MIM Strat should with all likelihood be found in the Fender database, but this one brings no results.)

I agree. It looks like a Chender (Chinese fake) to me.

Logo looks wrong
No truss rod surround
Butterflies look wrong
Spacing on body to neck plate looks wrong
Neck plate is obviously the wrong one but doesn't even look like a legitimate Fender neck plate
12th fret marker spacing is wrong
You are right, the back of the body shouldn't be black. I suspect it is a ply or MDF body with a veneer face.

Also a dead giveaway is the non staggered trem cavity middle screws

I'm sorry to say, but all the answers are correct.

It's definitely a fake Fender.

Anyway if it plays and sounds good to you, just play it.

Agreed.
Basses don't have the micro-tilt, so they do have that pattern, but the engraving on that one doesn't look right.
Also the "MZ" serial number on the front, but there is something else on the back of the headstock that we can't make out.

Absolute best case, it's a Squier neck, but I honestly don't think there is anything "Fender" on it.

The only sticker on the headstock that looks okay is the "Fender" one -- all the others look wrong in font and size. And (not sure if this was mentioned), a 2008 MIM would have an all-black Fender logo, correct? There is likely not one real Fender or Squier part on that guitar IMO ...

I'm not even sure about that. It looks a bit "tubby" and rounded to me but it might just be the angle of the shot.

I thought you were showcasing 2 different guitars--a sunburst finish and a black finish.

Not uncommon for Squier bodies. At least this one is a solid (mystery wood) body and not plywood.
Plywood 'burst bodies are easy to spot in a pawn shop window from across the street... the burst is only applied to the flat top surface so you have a very obvious sharp angle across the elbow relief.

Yep. Just checked the serial no. No such number. Good lesson, never buy anything without checking the serial.

Equally, people here have raised other equally important points, for those unlike me, who know what they’re talking about.
