The neck pocket screwholes should not grip the screws. At most, tight enough that you have to push the screws through, but loose enough that the screws drop through easily is fine. If the body screwholes are tight, the screws can't pull the neck down hard into the pocket.

The screwholes in the neck do of course need to be tight. Dowels are a weak fix because of the grain orientation of the dowels. Proper fix is to cut cylindrical plugs out of a board, so that the grain will be oriented the same as the neck's wood grain.

On a stripped neck, perhaps the best repair is metal anchors/threaded bushings screwed into the neck, with machine screws replacing the stock wood screws. Many people do that to unstripped necks, some in search of improved tone/sustain, others simply because it allows you to remove the neck an infinite number of times without risk of stripping.

Here's an example of the threaded inserts. No experience with this seller -- not endorsing them, simply using them as example so you can see what I'm talking about. There are many sources.

I agree 100% with the above having used threaded inserts in joinery manufacture for many years.

As a bodge you could fill the holes with match sticks well dipped in super glue. It isn't as good as the original wood but the matchsticks will, to an extent, act like little rawl plugs or a resin anchors and jam against the side of the holes.

Make sure the glue is set before you try to screw it in again, run in a pilot hole to centre the screw and lubricate the screw with wax or soap.

The trouble with the wood discs is, while you have reproduced the grain interaction with the screw, you are reliant on the glue joint holding the disks in the neck.

A "modern alternative" to wood stick & super(/wood) glue is to apply rapid drying epoxy with a toothpick inside the neck screw holes, let dry, and repeat the procedure until the holes are tight again. That sort of laminates the hole edges. Be sure to cover parts/places where you don't want the epoxy.
And an alternative to wax/soap lubricating is to rub the screw with a candle.

Hardwood plug glue in the damage wood is the easy way to fix . I will not use another material than wood, not insert wich need more skill.
I write hardwood plug, not softwood.

I have done many works on guitars

HFG did you Google ; stripped guitars neck hole ?
Sure not . There are lots of videos

So wax then ;-) You could also use a crayon, car polish, furniture polish etc etc.

You're of course right, candles are wax too. As often said, English isn't my first language, so your 'wax' popped up this kind of images in my mind: https://www.google.fi/search?q=wax&sour ... 36&bih=715
And @st52, inserts and wood plugs are the permanent solutions (and there's plenty of web debating about which is "the only right"solution…).
Sticks+glue and rapid epoxy are quick fixes (which sometimes hold "forever").

:-)

While I respect Stu Mac greatly (in the referenced video) there seems to be a great deal of faffing around just to put a (wrong way grain facing) dowel in place. I really cant see that resin filling the hole, or glue impregnated wood sticks would be any less effective.

It just goes to show that you should leave the neck where it is unless removing it is an absolute necessity.

I tried to email them at the contact address they provide ( info@deemic.com ) to get a set of their threaded inserts, but gmail says there's no such address. They say you can call them, but they want you to email them with your phone number first. (ironic)
