My son suggested the Romans numerals and I jumped at the idea. I like that the date reference is less obvious as it seemed incongruous putting 2018 on a 50's specification guitar, but I still wanted it obvious to me.

Another detail I noticed, and I now have countersunk pickup screws on order.

I would like to get hold of some black bakerlite sheet if I can to make up another back plate and pick guard in the appropriate material but that is a job for Ron.

"Created by" is certainly more appropriate. You did far more than simply "assemble" it.
You envisioned the finished product, procured parts that fit that vision... and most importantly, applied the finish.
"Assembled" implies that you bolted parts to a pre-finished body.

As for the roman numerals... I think they're pretty cool. I assume the "IX." refers to it being your 9th build.
If so, "IX.MMXVIII" is a cooler serial number than what I've used in the past, which were things like "xx19950004" where "xx" are the initials of the person I built it for (built a few 212 and 410 speaker cabinets in the 90s)

Thank you for your comments. I hadn't really considered I had done much more than finish and assemble it as I don't see it as anything grander than a Partscaster with an odd shaped body. Perhaps if I machine a body myself I might feel more worthy of claiming "created".

I have grown incredibly attached to the guitar though. Despite my original misgivings over the neck I have spent quite some time rolling the edges and dressing the fret ends and it now feels fantastic.

I tend to play more sitting down these days and the flat bottom to the body is really nice in that respect. It has become the guitar I want to be playing.

With regard to the XI - 9 this refers to September being the month I first put all the bits together.
