Hi Y’all! Newbie to the forum here...

So, about five weeks ago I received a brand new The Edge Strat. Delighted with it, sounds fantastic, feels great, looks great.

However, it has a polyurethane satin finish on the neck that almost immediately lost its satin. First it went sort of patchy, like my sweat/skin/oils were coming off and sticking to the finish. After gently wiping it down (using a damp soft micro fibre cloth and a drop of detergent) and removing this buildup, it felt good again, though maybe a touch less satin than when new. Having repeated this process 3 or 4 times since, I now have a largely gloss finish, after only a few weeks of light playing.

I am a bit disappointed about it really, I have a J mascis Squier Jazzmaster which has a satin neck finish which has lasted much longer and still feels fantastic and satiny. I am curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this problem with a USA Strat with a satin neck, if it’s a common problem, and what the best solution to get my satin finish back might be..? I am very reluctant to take a scotchbrite pad to my almost brand new £1500 guitar.

Thoughts and comments would be appreciated! Cheers, Alex
