I have a 2011 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster that has the S1 switch on the volume pot. It gives you 5 more tone options, which is nice, although I rarely use any of them. I usually prefer the more typical Strat tones. This weekend, however, I was glad I had this option as I was struggling for some kind of unique sound for my latest recording. Funny thing is, I wound up using S1 with the toggle switch in position 5. I always thought that sound was the least musical of all the settings, but it wound up producing a nasal quality that was somewhere between a sitar and a clavinet (think Stevie Wonder's Superstition). Kind of funky, but it was just what I was looking for!

Have any of you used the S1 option (if your guitar is equipped with it)? Here is a video of the song that used the nasal setting. The Strat predominately on the left channel is the one with the S1 enabled:

The two main Strat parts were recorded through a Fender Mustang III (V2) amp. Instead of using the USB interface, I ran the effects send output to an EHX Key 9 pedal set for Tri-Glorious chorus. I then took the dry output and ran it into one channel of a Behringer USB mixer, panned hard left. The wet output went into another channel, panned hard right. I swapped channels around for the "sitar / clavinet" track. This put the louder wet output more on the left channel. The wah track was just a short loop that I recorded on a Digitech TRIO+ pedal, which was plugged into the mixer and allowed to run for the entire length of the song. The Digitech also supplied the drum track, which I recorded separately directly into the mixer. I typically use a BeatBuddy for my final mixes, but they just didn't have anything that ended without their typical "drum solo" endings.

I was at a GC recently and played an AM Elite. Gave the S1 a try and really liked the different tones you could get. Does your deluxe also have the push button tone pot bypass?

I don’t think an S1 would be my cup of tea as I want to have a classic rock sound vs a modern one. But the S1 tones were pretty awesome.

No, mine doesn't have the tone pot bypass.

Just once on the 2015 Deluxe Roadhouse I purchased in February 2016. Hated it...and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Wanted to love that guitar...wanted to love the features of that guitar...just never could bond with it.
