Do they make a modern Strat with two humbuckers? I remember the "Big Apple" strat from a few years back, that had two buckers, but I can't seem to find one now.

Unfortunately, GAS has hit me, and on top of my recent Tele purchase, I am wanting a nice humbucker guitar, but I don't like Gibsons, except for the SGs, so I'm looking into getting a Strat, and dropping two buckers in it, unless I can find something that already has that done.

Any suggestions?

Would a Highway 1 be better than a Standard or other Mexican Strat? I'm not sure I want to spend the money on an American if I'm just going to mod it right off.

There isn't one listed on the Fender.com website. They don't list Factory Special Runs done for particular retailers, so you might want to check out some of the popular internet retailers.

If you wanted to make your own, you could use the HWY1, American Standard or MIM Standard --- just be sure it has the HSH routing. I'm not sure which of those have that. Let your budget help you decide which way you go, since a new pickguard and two humbuckers could cost $250.

Maybe you can find a used Big Apple Strat out of the Hot Rod Series in the 90th, replaced by the Double Fat Strat in Online Stores or ebay. Both MIA's.
Like I remember the Big Apple has a Seymore Duncan Pearly Gates HB in the bridge pos. and a 59th in the neck pos.

Good Luck :D

I appreciate the buying used suggestion, but I'm kind of against buying a used guitar. I like to build my own mojo between me and my guitars, it just feels wrong to be playing someone else's baby, even if they did get rid of it willingly.

Far as I recall the FMT (Flame Maple Top) and/or QMT (Quilt - ) Strats offer HH options. But I have been searching and not finding those guitars in the products section of this website. Am I blindly missing them, or are they not there anymore? Discontinued? Funny idea we had a thread about this two or three months ago - but I can't find that, either. D'oh!

Where I live, those instruments are still available in shops - but I probably don't live where you live...

Cheers - C

EDIT: bss just found the answer to this for us on another thread:

Sorry, not the answer we wanted. - C

You might be able to find an American HH like this one if you look hard enough -

Oh well. I'll probably just get a Mexican Deluxe, or a Hwy1 and do some customizing. Make it my own personal signature model, and make my own mojo with it.

Strat HH are good guitars
I like the middle position (both humbuckers combined)
it produce zero hum and is more quite than a humbucker
plus there are 2 tone controls to play with
I played my friend's Parker with 2 humbuckers & 5 position selector
it is cool with HH & 5 position selector
i wonder if Fender will consider reproduction for Standard Strat HH
with 5 position selector upgrade

Positions
(1)neck spilt single coil
(2)neck full humbucker
(3)combination of neck HB & bridge HB
(4)bridge spilt single coil
(5)bridge full humbucker

That sounds like a great guitar.
But didn't u mean to reverse selection 1 & 2?

So ... the H-S-H guitars that Mick Mars uses are just complete custom jobs, eh? It sounds like Fender needs at least one more signature model. Since it is my idea, do I get one to ... uhh ... test?

In my Fender Frontline 2005 book, there were two double humbucker Strats that were part of the American Series Stratocasters. They were the Strat HH and the Strat HH hard-tail. A buddy of mine in school bought a Chrome Blue Strat HH around '04 or '05, and when I first started jamming with him around October '06, he said that they didn't make them anymore. I played this guitar a few times, and it was the nicest Fender strat I've ever played even to this day.

I believe his guitar had the S-1 Switching system, as most of them did. It played and sounded like no other strat, but it still was a Fender. Even though Fender doesn't make these anymore, I suggest you look on eBay and depending on the condition, you can pick one up for roughly $800-$2000, which isn't bad at all. Believe me, you won't pick up any other guitar when you play one of these Strats.

As for comparing a Mexican/Standard strat to a Highway 1, you have some choices to think about. The Highway 1 strat is a few extra bucks, but it's american made. The problem with this is that if you mod it for a sound and you use that sound frequently (meaning you gig and record with that guitar), there's a good chance it's gonna get the crap beaten out of it, and the Highway 1 is a really nice guitar you wouldn't want to beat up. Many people will tell you that the mexican/standard strat is cheap and it won't hold up, but my cousin's had one since 1995 and he hasn't had a problem with his at all. I've played it several times and it sounds and feels great.

The mexican/standard strat is inexpensive but it's a quality instrument, and it would be perfect for modding and it can take a beating, only because you wouldn't be spending much on the stock instrument itself. However the choice is yours and either way whatever you choose would be a good choice. Good Luck and Have Fun!!
