Hi everyone,

Around 10 years ago I bought this guitar from my local music store and it has been a great guitar but unfortunately, I don't have much time to play it anymore so I was looking to sell it. I immediately noticed that I have no way to understand what year this guitar was made, where, etc. and this is mostly because there is no serial number that is allowing me to do so and the only serial number I could find (see photo) doesn't seem to help. In addition to this as soon as I started to take apart the components to look for a SN, I noticed some strange details, such as one of the screw holes from the pickguard not aligning with the hole on the body, which I wouldn't expect from a genuine Fender product. That is why I am wondering what kind of guitar I bought 10 years ago and if I have been scammed by my local music store.

Plenty of photos available at this link: https://imgur.com/a/k1bgbex

I am sure you will be able to help!

Thanks in advance!

Definitely a Classic Series 60s Strat which is a nice guitar. And, yes, it looks like the pickups are an upgrade. However, the fact you paid $1200 infers the store was trying to pass that guitar off as a vintage guitar when it is not that at all. The price is way higher than it is worth (a NEW one costs only $825). And for a reputable store to sell a guitar that had its SN clearly removed??? Surprising, all the way around... My guess is that you thought you were buying some "cool pretty old Strat" that played pretty well that will probably be going up in value over the years? Only to find out now it is a not-so-old Mexican Strat that will never be worth what you paid for it?

I have my doubts over the body. All the markings have been removed and it doesn't have the CNC reference routs I would associate with a MiM.

Where would I find these CNC reference? I am not sure what you mean. Thanks

Early (pre 2003) MIM Classic Series Strats did not have the CNC reference routs. And aside from the errant pickguard screw hole at the bottom of the control cavity, that's exactly what the guitar looks like to me.

The CNC reference routes are Quarter/Loonie/Kangaroo/Azteca/Shilling sized holes located in the neck pocket and about halfway between the neck and middle pickups toward the lower edge of the body.

But as Arjay said, they would not be present on an earlier model.
