First post! Just wondering what sounds and feels like a 2000 Mexican Strat. My buddy let me borrow his and I’m in love. Need to find me something that’s just like it or close. All help much appreciated

Ahemm… Another MIM Strat 2000..?

OK, let's get serious. In 2000, there were quite a few Mexican Strat models, so the first thing to do is to check the model. Then continue with checking if that specimen had any mods.
But, even if you find a same model & year guitar, just like the one you tried and liked, up to the color and playing hours behind it, there are still the mystical individual differences between two "similar" Strats.

How about trying to buy that guitar from your friend?

As JM notes, two identical specification guitars are unlikely to sound or feel the same. After 18 years of use this will be even more the case due to wear, aging etc.

Unless you can buy that guitar you just need to try as many guitars as you can until you find the magic. And don't be too prescriptive. I have guitars which, on paper, I should have found perfect which aren't in the flesh and others of which I thought the specification/features were all wrong but which I love.

The real question here is what model is it? A Standard Strat? A signature model or more premium model? This question is impossible to answer with a meaningful answer without knowing that ...

+1

During that time frame there were at least a dozen specific MIM models including a couple of different Deluxe Player Strats, two or three "standard" models, the three distinct "Classic Series" guitars, and several different artist signature instruments.
