Lead 12 .... that takes me back
as a kid i foolishly shunned em. played belgium 4 years ago. Just take the guitars and leads amps are provided basis and had a lead 12 in Tongeren miked to the PA not DI'd. After our set i spent the night plying the guitarist of the support band with beer trying to convince him to let me use the amp in Rotterdam the night after. Thats one hell of a amp.[/img]

the guitar itself isn't bad. Its a budget guitar made in a far eastern country maybe korea. the neck seems comfortable and chunky, not slim by any means. The pickups are good, great infact very nice tone without the muddiness that can sometimes cloud neck humbuckers. The real let down on the guitar is the pots, no taper on the tone control and the treble just dies the second the volume is lowered. The body seems very light too although i checked the specs its a mahogany neck/body with a maple cap.
When i first played it nothing about the fingerboard grabbed my attention good or bad i just thought the thing needed a good setup.

The pots can be replaced rather inexpensively and I would recommend adding a treble bleed circuit.

yep yor right mr Feathers bad pots aint the end of the world. I see from
your pickup phasing mod's your a man of taste, so what rating pots would make the best replacement. Is it 1meg for les pauls that helps balance em?

I would go with CTS 500k Audio taper pots.

if i took that kind of gear out round here I'd get mugged.
I'm very interested in your choice of amp, mainly the line6 ax2. Isn't that the 2x12 combo they bought out in the mid 90's just after the Johnson millennium combo was released?

I went shopping for the Johnson and auditioned it with a brand new '97 Ash American Standard. You've likely read my posts on that guitar in conjunction with the EMG DG-20. I didn't like the amp. I walked out with the guitar, in a Strat-Plus case...one of those streamlined, guitar-shaped form fitters, better than anything they've ever put a guitar in for me up until perhaps the new '08 American Std.

I acquired the amp as the AsSys212 original issue + floorboard controller. Their original concept was to give prior owners the option of upgrading the amp as they came out with new product. When the Ax2 was introduced, I converted mine for $95..new chip and new face on the control panel. Their upgrades included a whole range of Line6 tones. One of my great disappointment was that the new Hendrix modeling did not seem as true as the previous. That was the last time the upgrade option was to occur.
The next generation was the Flextone and a whole new technology.

I recently modified the motherboard to overcome a problem with the interface to the floorboard. This with the help of a fine musician/electronics gearhead from Texas whom I found on the Line6 Forums. Great stuff this new age of cyberspace information sharing.

There are people who swear by this gear, and you can't get any trade-ins worth towards something else. It has considerable weight and hauling up and down stairs and the like is tiresome, so I don't do that often.

Considering that I am out of the loop on much perfomance these days, it sits in the corner of my studio just waiting its time. With patience, you can work magic with it.......like the day I carefully culled out of it all the nuance of Clapton's tone on "Pretending". That was an interesting couple of hours.
If you like the guitar go for it.

Well...........in keeping with my own............and Chet's counsel, I am now the owner of a 1989 Eric Clapton Signature Series Stratocaster #SE900891. It is pewter, which is now a rare color, and represented to be in 9/10 condition. You may still be able to see it on Ebay. If it looks as good on delivery as it does in the photos I'll be a very happy camper.

You sense that I've been mourning the loss of my '97 Blackie and waiting the chance to get back to it. This vintage is likely to have more of the original vibe than the later guitars. The neck looks leaner, and I am given to understand that the powerplant in the earlier guitars had more sock.

When I get this one opened I am certainly going to compare those necks, and I'll have more to say on that score where Dewie's interests were concerned.

Been a good weekend so far and I hope Chet is playing his heart out today.

Doc :D

The pewter colour has always been the one i associate with Clapton guitars, even more so than black. The first video of his i saw, was in the mid 80's. Nathan East, Phil collins, and the big C. He played a pewter Strat for all but one song.

Sounds like you're talking "The Prince's Trust Concerts." Are they available as a collection on DVD over there??. My tapes have just about had it, and they were fabulous one-off performances with some great arrangements.

By the way...."Level 42"...'totally awesome dude"..like... my favourite!!
