The current models of AMERICAN ELITE STRATOCASTER® HSS SHAWBUCKER show the option for an Ebony fingerboard. I see used models that have Rosewood fingerboards. Was there change at some point? What model years of the AMERICAN ELITE STRATOCASTER® HSS SHAWBUCKER have Ebony boards? Thanks

A quote from namm.org:
Quote:
Also, beginning Sept. 12, two new colors will be offered on American Elite series guitar and bass models; Champagne and Ocean Turquoise (a vintage Fender and car color); they will accompany an exceptional set of premium features and new, upgraded ebony fretboards.

So, a 2017 model could have either fretboard.

The switch to ebony was mandatory because of the new CITES regulations prohibiting the use of rosewood and other endangered wood species.

There's nothing special about ebony as Fender used this fingerboard material on their high-end US-made instruments since the early 1980s.

Yep see here

Funny though outlets like musikraft are not exporting necks with ebony fretboards.
Maybe Madagascar ebony which I think is protected …. :D

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to look for a 2017 or newer to get the ebony fingerboard. Good to know.

Ebony fretboards were introduced early this year.

My Squier VM Thinline has an ebony board, so I agree this is not just an ultra-premium thing ...
