Looking at a new Player serious HSS Strat and wondering how easy this is to do?
Can you add a push pull volume or tone?
Can you use the standat pickups?
Will it then sound the same as a SSS?

Thanks

No.
For a split humbucker to sound the same as a single coil, it would need to be an extremely "hot" humbucker.

I know what Rich is getting at, as splitting a 12K HB would give you the 6K-ish you'd need to match the neck and middle SC's - and a 12K HB is quite hot. But I've done it with a standard Pearly Gates and it's a very good match. I don't know what impedance your standard HB is but I imagine it's not going to be less than the Pearly Gates?

But surely the HB splits as standard on your Strat anyway? If you want it more 'permanent', then yes, I suppose you'll need to add a separate switch. Having done it both ways, I'd say to disable the bridge-side coil, not the neck-facing one. Too shrill if you use the former, and the mixed position has virtually no quack.

You can get a passable imitation, but whatever you do with an HSS Strat it won't sound like a SSS. It's a different animal...

Cheers - Peter.

Yep.

BTW, Anyone yet found the Player series Service Diagram/Parts List pdf's?

The Player HSS has auto split in position 2. Looks very similar to the Mex Standard HSS arrangement but uses a superswitch.

"Pickup Switching: 5-Position Blade:
Postion (sic) 1. Bridge Humbucking Pickup; Position 2. Middle Pickup and Inner Coil of Humbucker; Position 3. Middle Pickup; Position 4. Neck and Middle Pickup; Position 5. Neck Pickup"

No mention of service manuals under the Player support tab on Fender's web site.

NOTHING sounds as immaculate and quacky and marvellous and divine as a SSS strat-O-caster.

Period.
