Hello, I am new to the forum and new to Strats. I have played acoustics off and on but recently got fired up by the guys at work to try electrics. I have a like new 07 HSS sun burst that was a failed Christmas present to my son and a 91 SSS that was a Good Will store find. The 07 is completely stock and plays great. The 91 plays even smoother and I think I like the tone better, it isn’t as bright. The differences I can see are the 91s tuners don’t have an “F”, the neck is a little thinner, the pups pole pieces are not staggered and it shows some use. There is one issue with the 07, it looks like the bridge is mounted a little off center towards the low e. The bridge shows a gap between itself and the pick guard high e side and the low e string is a little closer to the edge of the neck than the high e. It doesn’t hurt the playability, it doe make it a little easier to grab the low e with my thumb if I want. Since I am new at this,
I am wondering if there are any advantages to either year model? I may need to sell one and i would like as much info as possible to help make a decision. Maybe I can justify keeping both since one has the humbucker and they sound a little different?

General speaking new MIM guitars are better than the older one.

Justifying any amount of guitars (more than one, of course), is an art form where you deceive yourself as well as everybody else if you provide any other reasons than "I really, really want them all".

On the possible selling part, you probably get more cash if you sell the newer one - but the difference isn't big in the US.
Quality wise, the differences are not significant - that's sort of proven with the older 'playing smoother, sounding better'.

If you have to choose, keep the one you like more. And however you choose, you will have remorse afterwards - at least if you consider guitars to be more than mere tools. (Well, OK, some - me included - have feelings for tools, too.)
BTW, a 1991 Mexican Strat probably has made in America neck and body...

Thanks for the replies, It is good to know there aren’t any big pros or cons one way or the other. Now It easier to procrastinate and keep both until I can make up my mind.

Flowcharting it.....
Do you know how many guitars you have?
Yes - You need to buy another guitar
No - You might have too many guitars.
I'll need to check my storage unit - You probably have too many guitars.

English is not my native language, so I have no idea what the above means.

I am English and it doesn't make sense to me either.

Even mathematically ( The correct number of guitars =x+1) it doesn't make sense.

My Dearly Beloved does subscribe to the flat earth theory that you can enough guitars. I have a scheme to get around that though ...I am going to buy guitar parts so that she doesn't notice them multiplying directly.

All very amusing!
But somewhere in the equation must be your available space...?
Cheers - Peter.

Nope. It fits in the gaps between everything else and therefor doesn't take up any more space than you had previously. Alternatively, put a guitar in an empty gig bag
