Hi all, I'm a newbie and have the newbiest question. Sorry. I'm sure this gets asked frequently.

Do you think this Strat is real or fake? I'm told its a 1996 Standard. Skepticism grew because the serial number doesn't ahow on Fenders serial number database.
Your help with any details would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing really sticks out that makes me think it's a fake.
The truss rod bushing is correct, and the tuners and decal look right.
I would expect a fake to have a US or MAYBE a Japanese serial number... making a counterfeit Mexican model seems as far-fetched as making a counterfeit Squier.

Thanks! Yeah after looking around I couldn't find any serial number to work for any 1996 mim that I could find. They must not have them logged in the online database.
Thanks again

You could check the serial with Fender Consumer Relations, via the support pages (email or the wonderful chat service during US business hours). Sometimes they have serials which aren't in the searchable database.

Anyways, the neck fits the specs of a MIM of the era. The body is more difficult to ID. The lipstick pickups & trem cover plate aren't original, so check what else has been modded.
And a nice rumour of the web says a MIM Strat of those days (post-Ensenada factory fire in 1994) may actually be a MIA...

BTW, I'm not familiar with flickr, but the pic seems OK with the preview at the moment. If no pic, they (the cunning & conspicious workers of flickr) give it a random address every time...
