I’d like to refret a Strat. I’d also like to get a walnut plug removed and a nut truss rod nut put in.
Can anyone confidently suggest a luthier who could do both of these jobs (ideally) or two luthiers, one for each job?

And BTW, would fender itself be an option for this? I ask because over the years I’ve only heard of 3rd party options for this type of work when the topic is kicked around on various forums.

Yes, Steve Barratt in Felixstowe (trades as Guitarlodge). Fair old run if you live in the US, though...

As Stratele says - we need to know where you live!!! :) Cheers - Peter.

sorry. I didn’t include my loc cause I was operating under the ‘location doesn’t matter cause I’m going to mail it away’ principle. But of course no one would know that! :)
Thanks for the name.

Revised post...
So yeah, any luthier suggestions regardless of location. In other words nationally, the best, if there are a few sources known to people here to be the luthier to go to if you can.

And.... does fender do this type of work? The custom shop? Or service/repairs department?

Ah, fair enough! Didn't realise that. Better to use a tech/luthier you can actually visit, I'd always say, but if there's really no-one (any good) in the 50th State, I suppose you have no choice. And it IS difficult to find a good 'un, no question.

Even so, I doubt you're going to want to use a British luthier from where you are! Cheers - Peter.

Yeah I wish there was someone locally I could have work on it. Not on my island. And since I’d have to mail it to another island for even a semi experienced luthier I figured may as well just send it to the mainland to a pro.
And for a UK pro I’d probably be able to buy a couple of strats for the cost of shipping, unless there’s a carrier that’ll follow the geodesic route presumably over the North Pole

Contact Greg Voros at Gruhn's guitar in Nashville.
They have many people ship their guitars to him .
Their work is top notch and shipping in USA is inexpensive compared to say Canada

Ya, I'm not even sure if they still have an in-house customer repair shop like they did at the Valencia plant in the 70s. Some of their dealers are "Fender Authorized Repair" facilities.
Even if you were to order a "production" Custom Shop model, I'm not sure you could get the mod you want to the truss rod, you could probably get that on a personalized custom build.

I am curious what you mean on the truss rod though... Are you saying that you have a solid walnut plug, and you want to install a nut to adjust from the headstock rather than the heel, or do you have a standard MiA model with the drilled walnut plug, adjusted with a hex key, and you want to change the hex out for a Gibson style nut?

Ah. Too bad. I was hoping Fender could do it. I’ll email them just see if they suggest any options.
But yeah it’s a 2nd gen Malmsteen Strat (late 60’s type truss) with the truss nut adjustment from the headstock accessed thru the walnut plug. Solid maple neck. Skunk stripe etc. the rod works fine but the hex nut has been getting increasingly worn (yes I’m using the right key  ). Since I need a refret job I figured I may as well take the opportunity to replace the nut; and further with a bullet so i can easily replace it if I ever have to in the future.
