Just picked up this strat. I bought it from a gentleman who was in the military stationed in Japan where he purchased the guitar. I called fender to verify the serial number but they could not. They said it could still be a legit fender but would need more info. I have attached some pictures for review. Image

I (mildly put) dislike photobucket (their pop-up hell history plus the sudden change of user account terms, which left about a zillion dead pic links on different guitar forums, half of the links indispensible), and their page address doesn't work with the IMG-command here. Usually I boycot them.

But OK, I copy/pasted the link in your IMG-brackets anyway - it's http://s868.photobucket.com/user/6t7goa ... sort=1&o=5 if someone else wants to see the pic.

The serial number (JD12...) could very well belong to a 2012ish Fender Japan guitar, and for some reason the Fender database is missing a lot of those numbers. And the ST-62 was on the menu then. All fine so far.

But, I only see that one pic of the neck heel. Not nearly enough for any recognition.

For any real help, post more pics, straight here on the forum (to use the IMG-command,you need the pic's address; starts with http or https, and ends in jpg).

I did find this at the bottom of the dating information for Japanese made instruments
Quote:
In 2012, Fender has transitioned the numbering scheme again with the new serial number starting with “JD” followed by an eight-digit number with “Made in Japan” decals.

If your serial number starts with “JD” followed by an eight-digit number, the first two digits designates the year of manufacture.

However, there are some exceptions in this transition period in 2012. “JD + 8 digits” and some of instruments with “U + 6 digits” are also built in 2012.

JD + 8 digits

2012 and on going

The neck appears to be of Japanese origin :)

I am a bit skeptical.
I'm not completely familiar with the Japanese nuances, but it is an 11-hole WBW pickguard, with a single-ply, radiused edge trem cavity cover.
"ST-62" on the neck heel would make sense to be a '62 reissue.
Tuners are not stamped "Fender"... again, not sure if that is correct or not.

TA build looks sweet!

I started to "whattafuzz?" but then realized CB91710 had clicked on the OP's photobucket folder, with more pics than the one I found earlier with my limited & reluctant photobucket savviness...

With all the pics, I'll estimate it's legit: a Japanese Fender Stratocaster ST-62 in 3TSB.
The body looks like basswood, so that would make it the 'basic' model, with ceramic Japanese pickups.

Too many things right to be fake, IMHO:
General looks; check. Tuners, Kluson-type, non-stamped ("MHG-SD91 NI"); check. 3ply pickguard WBW; check. String tree; check. Trem cover & it's holes; check. Pickup covers/knobs/switch & trem tip color; check. Pickup stagger; check.

+1

The instrument looks authentic in every respect.

And I agree with CB91710's observation......the "BAN ONE" tribute clone looks outstanding.

I might have to contract him to bring plastic straws to Los Angeles

I have a 1968 MIJ reissue with a WBW pickguard and my trem cover is white single ply
