Hey guys, Peter from Norway and I´m new to the forum.

I´ve just inherited my dad´s Strat as he had a brain hemorrhage/stroke last year and will not be able to play any longer...
My brother and I got one guitar each - I got his old Strat and my brother got an old Rickenbacker, and he´s selling the rest of his guitars.
I am trying to figure out the year of this Strat to determine what it´s worth ( so my brother and I get the same value guitars).

The only "number" I manage to locate is what´s written on the neck joint, which is 526221.

Do any of know what year this guitar is and what it would be worth if I was to sell it today?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I tried to upload pics of it, but it didn´t work for some reason...

If by "neck joint" you mean stamped into the metal heel plate you could have a guitar of monetary value.

We do need pictures to make any proper assessment though.

Why not just ask your dad? The fact that he chose two specific guitars from his collection for you and your brother would suggest to me he has a pretty good idea of their specification and potential value but certainly their emotional value to him.

I wouldn't make a big thing of it though as he may be greatly offended/upset if you gave the impression your only interest in the guitar was its value so that you could sell it and wanted to make sure your brother and you were equal. You didn't have a guitar before, you didn't earn the money to buy it, so what it is worth should be irrelevant. As a dad with aged parents I am acutely aware of the significant issues that come to pass when considering the distribution of ones assets.

Your dad gave you that guitar because he wanted you to have that guitar. Guitars are a very personal thing. If it was merely about the value he would have sold the guitar with the others and the money would go into his estate.

Just a suggestion, John, but you might want to stick with giving guitar advice and not heap unsolicited, bombastic, condescending opinions about people's personal lives on them.

....or he might just find the advice helpful. It certainly wasn't intended as anything other than such.

On the pic posting:
Quote:
First you need to upload your pics to the internet. Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg'.

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

The serial number would put the guitar to mid or later half of the seventies, if it's US made and otherwise as it should. But pics (big & plenty...) tell more.

Yeah, if he's 5 years old he might find it helpful. All you did was self-righteously state the obvious, and in a pretty ugly manner.

Your remarks were also off topic, unless you can quote where he asked for advice on his personal life.

Apparently I'm not the only one with self -righteous, bombastic, condescending opinions looking to take threads off topic. If you thought it was an issue perhaps you might have PMed me so we could have discussed it like gentlemen.

If the OP is offend by my comments then I apologise unreservedly. That was not my intention in what is a very delicate subject under the circumstances.

John do you know much about strokes?

Peter as suggested above open an imgur account.
Upload lots of pictures of the guitar.
Front, back , neck, and if you could unscrew and flip over the pick guard with the pickups/pots and take very clear close ups of the numbers on the pots

Enough to know that the term alone is no indiction of how dibilitating, or otherwise, the condition may or may not be. I would not presume to quantify the impact based on the original post. I am however acutely aware of the very sensitive feelings of old people as they consider the distribution of their assets prior to their departure but I will say nothing further on the subject.

Wow! a lot of off topic BS and little help to the OP.

Peter, If the number you mentioned is the serial number, your guitar was made in 1976.

Value, of course, will depend on condition. You can get an of the value by looking at completed auctions on Ebay.

I took a quick look at current auctions and it seems most are asking for $1500-$3000 USD.

I hope this helps, I would like to see some pictures thought ! :)

With such little info and no pictures.
I would say it is from 1974-1976, unlikely to be any earlier and would say between $750-$3250....
With more details and pics we could narrow the range significantly.

First, my sympathy for your dad’s medical problems.

To the meat of your post: Based solely on the quantities produced, I would guess that the Ric may be significantly more valuable than the Strat, unless the Strat is a particularly desirable model. But there’s no way of knowing without significantly more info.

Ok guys, so I've managed to determine that the Strat is from 1974 and the Rickenbacker is from 1998.
I've used Ebay as a reference and it looks like they are up for $1500 - $3000, so I guess it depends on the model and coincidence :p
Thanks!
