Do you think the Player HSH also deserves a locking tremolo option?

Only the Player HSS is floyded but not the HSH.

Any thoughts for a floyded Player Strat HSH are welcomed.

Offering an HSH with a Floyd Rose seems logical to me.

But assuming the body rout allows, it's not a difficult job to HSH any Strat. Just buy the appropriate scratchplate from WD or similar...

I've had just about every possible p/up combo over the years. Funny how I've come back to the standard SSS now though. Still have one HSS because I like the Pearly Gates, but otherwise it's SSS all the way!

Cheers - Peter.

The Player series is an improvement over the older Standard line as the bodies are universally routed for HSH.

Well, how about a floyded HHH with three full-sized humbuckers?

I'm not sure what the advantage would be with HHH. SSS allows the middle (assuming reverse wound) to act as a form of humbucker .

Not that I take a lot of notice of Gibson products, I get the impression that three humbuckers was just a passing fad - Fender has three pickups so we ought to have three. Is that configuration still available?

My understanding is initially the Strat only had 3 PUPs because it was one more than two and therefor must seem better to the buyer. It was only subsequently that the advantages of using two PUPs together became apparent.

I agree that the three PUPs on a Strat, when used individually, are tonally different. I seldom, if ever, use the middle PUP in isolation though as it neither feels like one or the other...but that's just me.

At the end of the day we are all different and, if it makes you happy, go for it.

One of the big advantages you might expect from an HHH configuration is the wide spectrum of killer tones you can get - especially if the humbuckers use a 4-conductor cable allowing coil tapping and splitting.

With the HHH setup the tonal possibilities are endless.

Nah, still not feeling it. It does demonstrate how close together the PUPs will be though.

While I think you can end up with so many "killer tones" that you get lost as to which one is more killer than the other I can see HSH as a thing because, with coil tapping, you can pretty much achieve HH and SSS in one guitar (if that floats your boat).

Failing that there are single width humbuckers which would perhaps do a better job as you would have greater separation between the PUPS.

So many options....aren't Strats fun.

Or drop in six Duncan Hot-Rails and you'll have a V-12 powered beast!

I'd like to take some measurements on that... I'm curious what scale length the builder had to go to in order to fit 4 'buckers between the Floyd and the wagon wheel on a 22 fret neck.
Unless the bobbins were slightly narrowed.
