Sometimes what is obvious first hand can be difficult to diagnose from afar.
It could be high resistance in the circuit, an alternate path in the wiring or a parasitic signal , the latter unlikely
In terms of an open coil vaguely compare it to a fuse. Would you expect to get power from an outlet if the fuse was blown i.e. open circuit?
Keep at it, measure the coil with one end disconnected if it measures open swap it out and see what you get.. :D

I pulled the pickup and tested it. It is dead. I looked closer and found some damage in the winding. Not sure what I did, but I messed this guy up. Live and learn. I think I'm just going to buy a replacement. Thank you all for your help.
