Many MiM Standard models disappear from the product page.

Is that series being phased out and replaced this fall?

Galaxie64 noticed this on the Tele first; https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=110038

And now the Strat, Jazzmaster and Jag, plus the Jazz & Precision basses have joined the series.

A renaming along with a face lift.
With the Strat, they added the 22nd fret (!), new pickups, and wired Tone1 to neck/mid, T2 to bridge pickups. On a quick glance, no intechangeability issues (like with the Elite series).
The gap between MIMs and MIAs seems to be narrowing...

The shop.fender.com showed the series and individual products pages yesterday evening (Scandinavian time) but today it seems to be under construction.
Anyways, some leaks here: https://www.gearnews.com/fender-player- ... ial-media/

And a note to Fender: PLEASE, PUBLISH THE WIRING DIAGRAMS & PARTS LISTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

As the Player series leaked rumours spread across the internet claiming Tim Shaw and Mike Bump's involvement on the pickup design. Do the Players getting V-Mods and Shawbuckers as well?

It is a bizarre thing, as (as pointed out in the Tele thread) the Player series seems to appear on the Fender web site at the same price as the Standard despite having a number of features which would (to some) make the Player seem more desirable; 2 post trem, 22 frets etc. One wonders how they will then justify the (twice the price) MiA guitars which will, on paper, have the same features.

Personally I am pleased to see the back of the 50's & 60's Players as these were just a misnomer.

It does seem strange. Obviously something is happening with the Standard despite it only being 12 months (?) since the name was transferred from the MiA pro grade Strat to the MiM entry level. An absolute farce of a thing to do IMHO but once done it is done. I assume the Marketing Lemmings eventually came to the same conclusion - probably due to the change confusing every one and hitting sales as a result.

It you are a working musician who doesn't read the internet/guitar mags etc and needed a second Strat to back up your long standing Standard you'd be pretty stunned/confused/annoyed if someone handed you an entry level MiM when you asked for a Standard.

Furthermore "Standard" doesn't work as the name for an entry level guitar. Previously it was "The Standard" the level by which everything else was measured. "The Standard Bearer" - the proud carrier of the Fender name. "Standard" no frills, flash, pretentious or unnecessary bells and whistles but still able to do the job.

The change was ridiculous and didn't work on so many levels. Perhaps Fender should employ me to vet their Marketing strategies as they certainly seem to have it around their ears currently.

I've had a chance to see the specs as Fender pulls out the Player series from their products page.

One of the biggest changes is a more traditional body radius aside from the 22-fret neck and 2-post tremolo.

With the addition of a tone control for the bridge pickup Strat aficionados will get more control over their sound in positions 1 & 2 from the 5-way switch.

Only the HSS models will benefit from a locking bridge option.

I really don't get it when companies mess around and rename their standard series.

Standard models should remain, well, standard.

The outgoing branches being changed ad libitum over the years.

Anyway... I'm the happy owner of an American Standard with 22 frets, 2-point tremolo and everything else just as the Standards were made since the 80s. Still quite a "Standard" Fender Stratocaster.

Um, in '85 Fender introduced the "American Standard Stratocaster" -- it's never been called simply the "Standard Stratocaster". At the time, FMIC was importing a lot of Japanese Strats, so they included "American" in the name of their new line of USA guitars.

Years later they also started building guitars in Mexico. The "Standard Stratocaster" was always a Mexican model. There was no switching of the names -- the "Standard Stratocaster" always meant Hecho En Mexico.

((The "American Standard" did become the "American Series" for a few years at the turn of the century.)

They did a Standard Strat two years before CBS sell the firm to the late Bill C. Schultz. This guitar - colloquially nicknamed as the "Dan Smith era" Strat - should not be confused with the "Dan Smith" model with the barebones output jack and Freeflight trem.

The Standard series was manufactured in Japan before production moved to Mexico in the late 1980s.
