Hi,

I've just seen this Strat for sale. Can anyone tell me if this is likely to be legit?

Which models came with a humbucker (Tex, Lonestar, some artist models)?

The fact that it's a different colour from the singles has alarm bells ringing, but it could be a decent job (and pups are easy to swap), so what about the rest of the guitar, any ideas?

Serial number produces this (made in Japan is also on the neck just above the joint):

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in 1996 - 1997
Production Number: 17279

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Hi again!

Well, it's taken a little while for my post to be approved and unfortunately it appears there are now other interested parties pushing the price up, so it seems I'm not going to get it for the price I was hoping.

So another question... If it seems like the real deal what should I be looking to pay?

Cheers.

Unfortunately the reply from Fender didn't help...

Fender Japan was a separate entity than Fender USA up until very recently. The only information we have on instruments manufactured in Japan is for the ones that were imported in for sale in the US Market. Unfortunately, I will not be able to provide original factory specs on this serial number because it is not in our database.

Looks like you guys are my only hope!

I don't see anything in the pictures that might suggest it isn't a MiJ, but with missing screws on the trem, missing tuner ferrule and non standard pickguard/PUPs, I think you are looking sub £300 value wise.

As the neck suggests it was a 62 Reissue the body will have been routed subsequently for the Humbucker. How that was executed can only be guessed at but will have devalued the guitar as a legitimate 62 either way.

At £250 it might be worth a punt.
