Or maybe, like the string spacing, it's always been like this but now he's noticing because he's changed the bridge from a 2-bolt pivot to a 6-screw vintage style and it is no longer the same height? But I thought the YJM models all came with 6-screw bridges, bullet truss rods, and brass nuts?

Yeah I though of that but it’s not only the feel that I can tell is different but looking down the board from the head shows a flat board and it was never flat. Over the years I’ve gone to and from various gauges as low as 7’s to as high as 10’s and always was able to adjust the rod to feel and see some relief. So it’s not an old issue I just noticed. Also, I’ve gone through 8’s to 10’s since the bridge swap and always adjusted the rod to get relief and that was three or four years ago. The bridge is a perfect fit stock Fender part made for this Strat type.

This is a first gen yjm so it’s got markedly different specs compared to the ones your thinking of.

They certainly do. Not sure what he’s got now, but it’s far from a Malmsteen.

It’s a first gen yjm. Look it up. 7.25 vs. 9.5; tbx vs. no load; 5 way vs. 3 way; small pre cbs head vs. big cbs; small med frets vs. jumbo; single ply vs. 3 ply guard; etc etc. look it up.

Looking at the picture again, it looks like the high e string is not cetered on the saddle, so the string can be moved a lot toward the treble side.

Yeah I noticed that too and just chalked it up to port craftsmanship. But as you guys discovered in the other thread I guess the string is not centered cause the saddles are shifted to the low side due to the use of those incompatible centered inton screws. I bet I get the offset ones and it’ll all align.
Now if only I could get some relief out of the neck - albeit unecessarily most would agree (:0

Thap neck can't be all bad. In the seventies Travis Bean was making guitars with aluminum next that were nearly flat. In 1978 I almost bought one brand new for $250 but a salesperson talked me into a 78 Tele Custom. Looking online today those used Travis Bean guitars are going for upwards of $6,000 to $7,000. Makes me want to cry.
