The color... 8)

But seriously, the black ones should be a little 'softer'.
And I remember reading (never bothered to count myself) that the black springs have a few more winding turns - which may cause the former.

The price difference is probably due to the coatings.

Chances are the black ones are first nickel plated just like the silver ones, then the black oxide coating is applied on top of that.

It seem I remember reading that the vintage springs were "softer". I don't know. I added 2 more black springs to my MIA Standard and like the setup so much better. I have better tuning stability, the floating bridge is not too stiff (I don't dive bomb) and the bridge doesn't move much when bending. My first Strat ('66) had the 5 springs and it was great. They were silver in color, but there were no other choices.

Tremolo Springs is just up the road a piece from this place.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
