Any handwriting experts out there? Just seeing if people think this is really Clapton's signature or not?

Looks similar to a lot of his, but has some differences too.

You are looking to this group to authenticate an autograph so you can overpay for a guitar just because it has a signature on it? ... not sure you are thinking this through, but okay ...

I don't think it's really over priced for what it has with it and what shape it's in. Not factoring in the signature at all.

If you don't think it's overpriced, then it's most likely a forgery.

And yes... it IS a forgery if it is not EC's signature, whether the seller is trying to take advantage of that or not.

Whether it is or it isn't as a player it would be a complete pain in that position as, if you played the guitar, you would rub it off.

The only way to capitalise on a signed rock relic is to have details which prove its provenance; photos of it being signed, where when and why etc.

Otherwise it is neither one thing nor another. A guitarist wont buy it to play, for the reasons as noted above, and would certainly not pay more than an unsigned Clapton signature model.

A collector wont pay more than the unsigned guitar is worth (which should already be a reasonable sum) without solid provenance. Think of it as a 90's Ferrari with EC's signature. Would someone pay more for that car because someone has written on it?

If it could be proved, without question, that this was the guitar that EC played at X event or to record Y then you could be in the money to a collector.

In short, without unquestionable provenance, it is just a defaced guitar. How authentic the guitar is we can't tell from the photos...but it is a prime candidate for being faked.

And another thought. Promoters, fund raisers etc. may not know one end of a Strat from another. If they are having a Strat signed to auction off at an average fund raiser they will just buy a Strat, they aren't going to shell out for one of the most expensive in the range because they want to make as much as possible for the good cause. If it is a promotion for a Guitar magazine, Fender etc. then there will be pictures, a Certificate etc. etc.

idk about the signature, it looks to me that it could be real, but I see some other interesting things in the pic. Looks like Pewter, 22 frets, 8 hole pick guard, vintage bridge, Lace Sensor pups, fancy case, ......... attributes of a Clapton Strat maybe?

What model is the guitar? Any more pics?

Yeah it's a near mint 1989 Clapton model Strat. I'll see if I can get more pics posted sometime.

Sweet guitar!

Unless you have some sort of proof that Clapton actually signed it, the signature is worthless IMO. In fact, were it mine, with no proof, I would wipe the signature off of the guitar and just enjoy playing it. I say that because to me, signatures in that spot are annoying. If I had an artist sign a guitar, it would be on the back of the headstock, or some other place that it would last, and I would want a pic of the signing for proof.

^^^^ This.
It is highly unlikely to be a signature from a music store or some other promotional event. As mentioned before, those promoters buy the cheapest thing they can find and assembly-line them up for the artist to sign. It's not unheard of for these examples to be Squier and Epiphone.
It appears to be a legitimate EC Signature production model, which would be too high-end for one of these events. If it WERE from one of these events, it might be possible to trace through the serial number since the promoter would have been the original cutomer.

Whether the signature (or what's left of it) is legitimate or not, without evidence of the signing, no collector would touch it, and the signature adds no value.
If the asking price is a fair price for an EC model of that year, then it's a good deal... but don't buy it because of the signature.

Well the story is it was signed at a concert for the Jouneyman tour. So it wasn't a promotion or anything. I bought it because I was looking for an older Clapton strat with the Lace Sensors in Pewter. And this was one was pretty much mint. I paid what I was willing to pay for a mint Clapton Strat. I red one of this year with the case but nothing else sold for $1750 recently on Ebay. I didn't pay that much. I don't think I paid any extra for the signature. All the Clapton strats I've seen cheaper in this color have finish chipping off the fretboard or scratches.

If it isn't Clapton signature I'm happy just cleaning it off and playing it, but I don't want to do that if it is his signature. Even if it means I can't play it.
There's places that will authenticate the signature, but you have to send them the guitar. I don't really want to ship it. They do stuff in California at card shows and stuff like that. So maybe I'll drive down there sometime for that, it's not that far.

It sounds like you got a fair deal then. I know used EC models aren't cheap, and those gold Laces sound awesome (I used them on a Partscaster I built in the 90s).
