This is kinda funny, and doesn't really bother me, but I thought it'd be fun to discuss.

One of my strats has a classic white 3-ply pickguard that is aging beautifully into that greenish characteristic color that makes strats look so deliciously old.

Thing is, I bought it new and it came with the stickers and plastics on. And there is a definite spot where the bigger sticker was, that didn't age equally, it's still quite snowy white. I guess the guitar was exposed to light at the shop for a while and this is what happened.

Do you guys think it will eventually get more uniform or will it keep aging unevenly?

New plastic doesn't turn green it was only the old celluloid ones that did that.

It does yellow though...a tiny bit.

Will the sticker mark ever go? Who knows? The sticker should have been on top of the plastic film so wouldn't have been in direct contact with the pick guard ...unless some chemical in the sticker adhesive has leached through.

If it is just sun light, and the plastic isn't contaminated, subject to how much sun the guitar is now exposed to the percentage of covered and uncovered time difference between the two areas will diminish and so should the difference in colour...perhaps. Does new plastic colour more than old? These and many other questions.

Just replace it.

Well, experience seems to contradict what you said, John... It's a 2013 American Standard, and the PG did indeed turn greenish, not yellow. Maybe not the same as the old ones but it did.

The sticker was on top of the plastic, not directly attached to the pickguard.

I am pretty sure it was the light that made it.

Well I bow to your experience. Obviously mine, of greater age, are unusual.

Perhaps, if the guitar was hanging in the sun with the film on there was a reaction with the film adhesive exposed to the sun and it is this which has discoloured the guard. If this is the case, the mark may never disappear.

Oh, and I hope you weren't offended or anything, I was just stating that mine turned a bit green...

It might never get to be as green as a celluloid one would eventually, though...

I've had the same problem (if you'd call it that) with those stickers! I have a 2006 Strat pickguard with a definite mark caused by the oblong one. I wouldn't say it's green though, just lighter where it hasn't been exposed to the light. I suppose some plastics are just a little more sensitive to the light? I've tried leaving it out in the sun to no avail. Now I ignore it...

Cheers - Peter.

Yeap... I'll just leave it alone.
