I'm looking at buying a 1980's Japanese Stratocaster. I used to own one and loved it. I have found a few and I was wondering if the E series serial numbers are more valuable than, say a B series serial number.

Thanks,

Short answer: yes. The earliest ones are the most wanted.
But (there's always a but...), it all pours down to the individual instrument. An original B (C, K, whatever) in great condition may be more valuable than a modded and worn out JV/SQ/E.

Plus, the price of a MIJ is highly dependable on what part of the world it's sold. Plus two; beware of fakes.

I had one from 85.. it was one of the best strats I've ever had. Sorry I sold that one, but I replaced it with a 96 PLUS which was great once I changed out the gold lace sensors. THAT one I still have.

The serial number on this is B011223 and it has a System One tremolo/bridge on it. This thing is mint other than the fact it has custom EMG pickups which were installed by Richard Sadowsky, https://www.sadowsky.com . I know it's kinda hard but could you put a value on it? Like I said it's mint but has been modded with EMG pickups.

Thanks

reverb.com CAR Strat 1985, sold
That one went for 1000$ + shipping, so the value is pretty much that.

BTW, not nice to not post a link to the ad - even though this one was easy to find.
And BTW2, 'mint' {in the ad's product specs it says Mint (Used)} and 'modded' are IMHO mutually exclusive - even when, like here, the mods were done to the guitar when it was new. 'Excellent' (in the description part of the ad) fits a lot better.

During 1985-87 There are some different varieties with E series. Traditional '62 and '57 reissues. Then you have the Contemporary Series (usually w/o pickguards and with a Humbucker in the mix)

Standard Series (called "Contemporary 22" with 22 fret fast D profile necks, pickguards, 3 single coils, Fender System tremolo or a beefy but traditional Strat style Kahler) That is the style of the one in Red posted at $1,000 in an earlier post. I HAVE A BLACK ONE OF THESE with rosewood fretboard! I am considering selling.
