I was wondering if MIM Strats are good enough to gig with. Also, how good is the Deluxe Player Strat?

Not only are they good enough, with a little work, they're much better than some of the other strats in stock form. I've got a MIM that I put GFS pickups in, and had a VERY thorough set up done and it plays beautifully. I know how this will sound, since opinions are everywhere, but my instructor is a world class studio player who is a NUT regarding tone and he wants to own it! In fact, he told me that I had "beat the system" in regard to cost and upgrading through the different strats. I'm only into this strat for about $500 total with new pickups, setup and all. I did have to have the neck replaced under warranty when the skunk stripe "sunk" into the neck, but I think those are made in the US even on the MIM's??
Maybe there's a big difference between MIM's, but if so I got extremely lucky. I cannot recommend them enough...

Of course they're good to gig with! Its a Fender! I've seen pro musicians gig with squires! Just go to the artist page and listen to Frank Bello! He said he gigged with a squire!  8)

played well over 200 gigs with my mexican squire series, its the only piece of equiptment that didnt let me down, my jacksons, marshalls and a certain boss pedal all went haywire at some point. Never my cheapie strat though. Covered in beer, sweat and thrown around airports. nothing stopped it and its less painfull if it gets bust rather than a american model

Like everyone has already said, they are perfectly giggable guitars. I havn't played out much recently, I'm usually stuck in my studio, but if I was to start gigging again I wouldn't hesitate to use my MIM Standard and MIM Classic 50's. They both stay in tune extremely well even with trem use and they play and sound great. Oh and they look nice too, the standard is two color sunburst and the 50's is surf green. Mmmm...surf green.

I had a Deluxe Players Strat, great guitar, but turned out to be the wrong Strat for me.

Both of my Strats are MIM's, and they've taken YEARS of constant gigging without ever having any trouble. Every MIM I've played has been well-constructed, handled well, and more than worthy of the Fender name.

Don't do what everyone around here does, "Oh I gonna get Mexican Strat and I'm goin' to change my pickups. Keep the stock ones in there, their just fine and use Mike Fuller's Fulltone OCD pedal, just like Trower does. Everyone thinks the big thing is and all they hype is to have to change the pickups, not so, The stock ones just sound fine the way they are. For crips sake, leave the guitar alone would ya!

I would say the MiM strats are better than for just gigs.
They are really good instruments these days.
I do not like the Deluxe Players Strat® though.
I am unsure exactly where it is off for me...
Maybe its the feel of that 12inch radius fretboard
(It's flatter than the normal 9.5inch)...
All I know is that it played like crap to me...
I found the Roadhouse strat & the Lonestar to be a way better guitars!
TRy a roadhouse & a lonestar back to back...

They are surely good enough to gig with. A few month's ago, my band played a show with one of those oldies/doo-wop bands (The Tokens) and their guitarist was playing a Squier Strat. I spoke with him and he said that all he changed was the pickups and tuners. It sounded just as good as any other Strat that I've heard mic'd through a massive sound system.

I agree with this in that the MIM pickups are quite good. I bought my '04 new, and they were definitely solid enough for me to keep the git stock until only just recently (I must confess that I came upon a deal on some sweet Tex Mex pickups I could not pass up.)

I surely won't mess with my stock pickups because I have a made in Mexico 70s reissue Strat and whether being American or not, they still have to keep authentic to the 70s reissue. The (MIM) 70s reissue Strats have the Alnico pickups and electronics just like the American ones did back in the 70s. After all even though it's (MIM) they still have to keep authentic to the original 70s specs anyway. That's why I won't change my pickups. I can use Mike Fuller's Fulltone OCD pedal if I want to add overdirve. That's what Robin Trower is currently using now.
