Hey guys! New to the forum.

I got a American Strat about six years ago it came with custom shop pickups, default wiring was 1 volume and 2 tones. The tone for the bridge pickup was a no-load pot. Which I hated, since as you know having it on 10 removes the the pickup from the tone circuit. And it can get a bit spiky.
The solution just replace the no-load pot, but then I went a different path. And turned the no-load pot into a blender pot between the neck and bridge pickup. So volume, master tone, blender. Works very well but sometimes I feel might be missing something not going the traditional route.

So what are your experiences??

John

With the original wiring, there was a slighty different impedance load in the 4 position, compared to having a single master tone. (Because in the 4 position, both tone controls were active.)

But that's barely audible, and you might well prefer the way the master tone sounds in the 4 position.
--------------------
For me, I prefer separate tones because of the way I use the controls. I tend to leave the neck tone either wide open or rolled all the way down for woman tone, and generally leave the bridge rolled down to 7 or 8. I don't like to have to fiddle with the knobs everytime I flip the switch.
---------------------
The 3 knobs on a Strat inherently forces limitations, compromises, trade-offs. All the wiring schemes give you things the other schemes don't.

The only solution is to own more than one Strat.

Or be like Frank Zappa and add extra knobs and switches.

I prefer the no-load pot rather than the TBX, easier for me to find the function at the end of the sweep as opposed to the middle. Especially when the detent wears out a bit.
I like the 2nd tone jumped to the bridge in order to cut the highs.
I also like a little treble bleed on the volume to keep consistent tones when backing down the volume.

Two of my Strats have a master tone with a blender pot allowing me to variably blend in the neck pup any time the bridge pup is on.
So, bridge and bridge/middle.
The blender pot is also push/push which toggles the bridge/middle position between series and parallel.
It's a configuration that I like very much.
I do not miss the extra tone control.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I myself LOVE the Delta-tone.

It makes your Strat cover a lot more ground if you learn how to dial in the treble...

I leave it with the tone rolled down to 8 for a classic strat tone, and if I need some more heat I click it up to 10, so I can get a shrill bridge pup.

I wouldn't change the wiring in an American strat because of that, if you don't like the hotter bridge, just leave the tone uncranked.

My 0.02, just to chime in.
