Hey guys,

I am looking at getting a strat, however I'm torn...

I'm trying to recreate a cheaper version of the David Gilmour Signature Series. So I was looking at getting a MIA Strat Special, The David Gilmour pickup/pickguard kit and vintage C style neck with 7.25 radius and 21 frets.

My question to you guys ... Will I lose anything going with the Special vs the standard? It seems like I will be replacing everything but the body and bridge, so it's hard to justify the $400+ for a standard.

I see there is a Vintage Strat '65 for $18xx which already has a similar neck, however, that's $800 more. So an option is to sell the pick ups in that one, and the buy the DG pickup/pickguard kit.

Anyone have any suggestions? Is the Standard worth the price if I Am going to replace neck and pickups? Appears the only difference is the bridge.

Shopping list below. I love lacquered fingerboards, but will have to sand the back to a C instead of a V.

The concept is this:

Guitar: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender/Ame ... erboard.gc

Pikcups: https://www.guitarcenter.com/EMG/EMG-DG ... 7998197.gc

Neck: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender/Cla ... 0137521.gc

Any advice would be awesome,

Thanks

Hi & welcome.

You could check the MIM and MIJ selections - a second hand Classic 50's or a ST-54 (57) could suit the purpose. Maybe also consider the many companies making Fender licenced necks & bodies.

This is your first post, so I have no idea of your skill level & such. So, are you sure you can pull through a complete guitar build?

I like the idea of spending a little more money and getting the Vintage Strat model you mentioned + the new loaded pickguard. Also, I would STRONGLY recommend not selling (or messing with) the loaded pickguard it came with; if you keep that original pickguard untouched with the guitar you will maintain its value. In addition to the "maintain value" factor, it is also a much easier path to nice playing guitar which, to me, is well worth the money.

Consider maybe this one too:

O1GT, nice I didn’t even see this model.

I’m wondering, does it come in white? :)

I have tinkered with building guitar pedals and Pinball schematics. I am intermediate-advanced guitarist. I don’t know what skill you’re referring to :)

I just love the low action and feeling that a 7.25r affords.

Is the price of that vintage 56’ all in the picks ups, or the reissued neck?

It looks like the "aged white" and "sunburst" versions are discontinued. But, there are some limited pockets of where you could buy a white one. Here is a link to one:

Yes and yes .... and the nice hardshell case ... and all the quality associated with a MIA model
