How do you get a dark tone from a Fender Stratocaster HSS with just the Equalizer on the Amp? Also I’m not planning on modifying my guitar. What Equalizer setting would you recommend for a tone similar to a Gibson Flying V. It doesn’t have to sound exactly the same.

1- Buy a Flying V. A Strat will always sound like a ....Strat

2- Another amp may help . Wich amp do you use ?

Try using position 4, front and middle pups combined, and roll back the tone on the guitar a bit. And then cut some treble on the amp. You may find muddy tone rather than dark but it is worth a try.

If that doesn't work then buy a V

"Dark tone" is a very vague descriptor.
From a purely EQ perspective it's a simple matter of adjusting and readjusting until you get what you want.
If your EQ doesn't have enough range then put two in series.
The problem is ... guitars have much more going on than just bright versus warm.
There are literally dozens of other facets of tone to consider.
The guys are quite right.
You can't make a Strat sound like a Vee.
You can get it roughly into the same EQ range but since there is more to tone than EQ there's not much you can do beyond that.
If you need a Vee then you should probably get a Vee.

If you are looking for one guitar to do everything reasonable well but nothing perfectly well then you might take a look at the James Tyler Variax

LOL.

That looks a cool bit of kit. I'm a sucker for little amps.

Wish I still had it (as I do with most of my gear from the late 70s), but it went in trade to help pay for my Peavey Deuce.

It was a neat little amp. The distortion and reverb were footswitchable... that picture shows a homebuilt alloy box, but the amp came with a matching wooden wedge with the "Rock" logo and two stomp switches. The bottom of the wedge had the ribbed rubber found on the Morely pedals.

I *do* still have my original Morely WVO ;)

I know that feeling. Many, many years ago I part exchanged my Marshall MV50 2x12 combo for a Peavey Backstage Plus and actually paid money on top of handing over the Marshall. The Marshall was a massive beast though.

I still use the Peavey though and almost never use The Marshall 50 1x12 combo I bought 20 years ago.

This amp is not a Two Rock amps I'm talking about. I understand you don't know Two Rock amps made by hand in California.

Two Rocks are sort of Dumble inspired. John Mayer used them until recently, when he got a real Dumble. Describing tone with words is awkward. I wouldn't call Two Rocks "dark", I'd call them a bit fatter and warmer than blackface Fenders.

Of course, if you compare them to Vox or Marshall amps, "dark" might be the word to use.

My friend who owns many TR amps said they are darker, same for me, they are not warmer IMO but darker

Again, words are used differently by different people. I wouldn't call Mayer's Two Rock tone "dark", but we're just arguing semantics.
