My father gave me a Fender Stratocaster he got around 10 years ago. It was labeled as a Fender Stratocaster "Custom". What's intriguing about it is it's got two fender lace sensor humbuckers along with two extra little switches to control them. The switches have 3 settings each.

After searching the serial number on the website, all I figured out is that it's a 1995/96 American Standard Strat. But the only model from that time period that comes close to fitting this one is a Big Apple series Strat, which still doesn't explain the switches.

Here is a photo:

There very well could've been modifications made to it by a previous owner, as I am not aware if we were the first owners or not. I guess I'm just wondering if there is a possibility of this still being 100% authentic, and if so, why is it so unique?

Or a straightforward 90's US Strat with an aftermarket pickguard?

I've had many such, bought from WD. You can get whatever configuration you want. Have a look under the hood; there might be a maker's sticker...

Cheers - Peter.
