The problem I sometimes have is there are often many "official" factory color names that describe essentially the same color as Stratocasters have evolved over the decades, depending on the year the instrument was crafted. I bought the instrument I show in this forum's message signature space as a used item, so I never had a receipt showing the official color. I sort of thought it most nearly resembled "Bright Sapphire Metallic". But recently I was informed it may be "Aluminum Mist", a RARE color offered around 1995.

But a big reason I picked up my 2006-model American Deluxe recently, aside from the added S-1 switching tones of course, was that it has a natural "Amber" finish that best shows through the body's natural woodgrain. Maybe that has something to do with the fact many of my ancestors were carpenters and woodworkers. I also like seafood and the abalone fretboard dots make me hungry .... I dunno' .... it's just pretty to look at.

HI folks - just joined the forum a few minutes ago........

Favourite finish has to be Sunburst. Boyhood dream to own one when I was 15. Finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2000 American Standard - @ 52!

Also loved the natural Ash/maple neck and Fiesta Red/maple neck that were also on display but stayed with my "dream".

Cheers
Chuck

The three tone sunburst is classic. Also, I have a Strat in Inca Silver with a pearloid p/g that I absolutely love.

DChauler i have your info on doing your finish. I did not see your email in your profile though.
My favorite two would be surf green and a natural finish on a real walnut body. Oh yeah it's killer. 8)

I've had the opportunity to have my hands on dozens of Fenders of varying ages, and I can honestly say that I've not seen a finish that I didn't like. My absolute favorite has to the be the 3-color sunburst. Shoreline Gold is high on the list as well.

I've always wanted a guitar in a beautiful candy green. Makes my mouth water. Oh man, I'm gonna need a mop.
