Hi

I have a Teambuilt 'EC' which has a problem.

It's very noisy (not the good kind of noise) -

When I plug it in to an amp with the volume up there's a lot of hum through the amp. If I put my finger on the metal of the input jack (or the bridge or even a tuning key) it goes much quieter. Or if I touch more than 1 string.

If I slide my hand up and down the back of the neck it crackles like mad through the amp.

If I rub my hand over the body - particularly the back of it (bizarrely), it crackles like mad.

It's about 5 years old and has done it since new, but it's only now started to annoy me (doesn't get played as much as some of my others).

Does anyone have ideas what could cause that?

Cheers 8)

A ground wire is missing or bad ground solder/ contact to ground.

Yep...I just fixed the same problem, ground wire was broken. It was broken in two places, the one running from the back of the volume pot through a hole in the cavity and soldered onto the trem claw, and the wire from the ground wire on the input jack to the tone pot. Pull it apart and check.

LeftyElliot, sounds like static electricity to me, if you can hear it by just rubbing the back of the neck, and body without touching anything metal, then that’s static electricity.

How to fix it? I have no idea. I’ve been dealing with it for a while myself, but it has gotten better here lately.

Some say polyester clothing can cause it, so I tried it wearing only cotton garments, and sure enough it was less, but still there.

I wish I knew how to get rid of it completely, I find myself getting little static charges just by walking around the house, and touching something metal.

If anyone knows a definite fix, or how to get rid of static electricity permanently, please fill us in, I’ll appreciate it.

Static will go to ground if it has a path, not into the audio signal...have you checked the ground path and all connections?

Maybe ground out the body-cavity, and the underside of the pick-guard as well...can't hurt.

Cheers folks :)

I've got a few EC Strats but this is the only one that behaves like this.

I've decided I'm going to get a guitar tech have a look at it for me, rather than me poking around making it worse no doubt

Lefty, I remember when you ordered this one. Did you get the issue solved? Curious to find out what caused the problem?
