If 7.25 radius bothers you, there have been several recent Strat models with big headstocks, wider nut width, and 9.5" radius. No bullet truss rods on those, but no poorly-executed 3-bolt neck joints or tone-sucking cast Zamak bridges either.
Or flat out buy a new one.
https://shop.fender.com/en-US/parts/nec ... ml#start=1
The MIA with the 9.5" radius is not cheap at over $400 USD, but it is a genuine MIA Fender product with the large headstock (and decal), accepts modern standard or locking tuners, 9.5" radius, and the finish is matte.

I have that neck on my American Special and am very happy with it.

The MIM neck is only $200, but it's got the gloss finish and 7.25" radius. It is also pre-drilled for the vintage style "F" tuners (modern style will leave holes showing)... but it also has the option of running the original 3-bolt.
That neck will be going on my Partscaster.

A reality check for us in Europe: Clicking on your link takes me to the right product page (AmSpecial neck), but with different language/region settings.
The price is now marked 659.00 €; that's 816,07 USD. Doesn't include freight, VAT, customs duty - if I understand correctly.
Makes me understand the second hand market price level differences US/Europe a lot better... :(

You should be able to buy through a UK Fender dealer at that price. If you buy from the US you buy at the $ price and pay shipping, import and VAT on top.

I use to buy a lot of car parts from the US years back. The pound was stronger against the dollar but my rule of thumb was what ever the price in dollars is what I would pay in pounds after shipping and import taxes.

In fact, this kind of neck with jumbo frets and bigger radius seems very good!

Do you know some other more recent models of stats and teles equipped with the same kind of neck besides the SFR Telecaster 72 custom that was mentioned before?

Thanks!

P.S. below is the another 77 strat that I have found for the price of 1300 with minimum of the modification (pickguard, one micro at the bridge position). As you can see on the maple neck there are some black scuffs. Might it be considered as a marker of its bad conditions?

This time I would like to purchase this kind of stratocaster for playing but with the possibility to re-sell it in future with the minimal lost of money in order to buy a new guitar.

Personally the only problem is that all of the 70th strats that I have seen were mainly with very slim neck of 7.25 radius and 42 mm, where I prefer broader neck with the profile of modern C shape like on the telecaster SFR custom 72.

Highway One Stratocasters; 9.5"; 22 frets; Modern C; Medium Jumbo; 43 mm nut width.
American Special Stratocasters; same, except with Jumbo frets and a 42,8 mm nut.
Two model suggestions, if the three bolt neck is not a must.
Buy a used one for 600-800 (€£$), play for a few years, get all or at least practically all of the price back when you sell. There are even quite a few modded ones, so you're not limited to the factory stock pickups/electronics.

Thank you so much for that ideas!

Highway One Stratocaster is available for 500 euro but I suppose the sound is more anti-vintage as compared to the second strat :-)

Americal special stratocaster is supposed to be the guitar that more resembling the vintage sound. I have found several instruments with the price in the range of 700-1000 euros. What is the real difference between these models ??

It's a Strat. If you don't like the sound change the PUP's

Yup, they saved money by putting fewer winding on the PUP's

Without the ability to teleport and play them all, who knows?

Not necessarily. Both HWY1 and AmSpecial could come with Texas Specials - and that just might be the most common pup set on both. Older (small headstock) HWY1's can sound real old school; they had the "vintage style" pickups.

Gleb Novikov wrote:

Without playing the guitars, just some occasional observations:
The two first are American Specials.
The first, Natural, is newer (2012), basically in original condition. I'd say it's a WYSIWYG guitar (no surprises to be expected, good or bad). I don't like the prix ferme clause, takes away the fun part.
The 2nd, CAR one has an upgraded bridge pickup (JB Jr; single coil sized humbucker). A little older; 2009, some marks of use - but little things (like the TUSQ string trees) suggest it's been well kept.
The third one is an American Standard - many would say it's a class or two higher quality, so it's also priced higher. It's an FSR (Fender Special Run) guitar, the Rustic Ashes were available at least in 2013-2014. On this model, the "special" seems to be mostly on looks.

I'd guess with any of that trio, the 'play a few years, sell & get as much as you paid' could happen.

Actually, the American Special uses the Texas Special pickups. Not vintage at all... It is a bit hotter than standard, with slightly enhanced mids. It is still unmistakably "Strat", but some might like to dial the gain back a bit.

One difference between the American Special and the Highway One, and this depends on what year Highway One you get, the American Special and later model Highway One have the "Greasebucket" tone circuit, but also, while the original Strat wiring had the tone controls connected to the neck and middle pickups, the American Special and later Highway One models have the tone pots on the neck and bridge, with no tone control on the middle pickup.

I have a 2017 American Special and really like it.

Thanks for the advices! 8)

Personally just based on the You-tube listening, the sound of American Special strats looks more interesting.

Here also the Highway models that I have found. I guess that is also a very anti-vintage :-)
However the price is like on the Mexican strats.

Actually, if Fender Marketing & Confusion Department would have made the right choice, they could have introduced a new and improved HWY1 instead of an AmSpecial (that name had a history; Strat-o-Sonics & such).
After all, a late HWY1 and early American Special are basically the same guitar with updates - even the AmSpecial neck is called "NECK HWY 1 STRAT MN UPGRD NAT PNT".
(And at that, I'll refine my previous: early HWY1's had the medium jumbo frets, late ones the jumbo. And the 0,2 mm difference in nut width could be just the metric/imperial conversion.)

So, take the Highway Ones seriously just as well as the AmSpecials - unless, of course, if you consider that a 750 guitar is better than a 550 guitar because of the price tag.

Regarding "vintage tone" versus "anti-vintage" (most people would say "modern tone"):

As John Sims said, that's almost entirely the pickups (or "microphones" in some parts of the world).

6 screw vintage-style trem versus 2-point modern-style trem might play some role in that -- but it's mostly the pickups.

Whatever Strat you buy can easily be made to sound "vintage" with replacement pickups.

Another guy from 1978. I suppose that the conditions of this strat are the best as compared to all vintage guitars that I have demonstrated here, aren't it? 8) The neck here may it be as a slim C or rather a depth U shape ?

Dude! We aren't going to choose your axe for you. Only you will know if it is what you want and then only by playing it.

If you can't get to try the guitar you will just have to bite the bullet and order it. If you hit gold then job's a good'n. If you don't you'll just have to sell it on and try again. It is all part of the fun of buying guitars.

And another funny thing. Sometimes you can pick up a guitar and not get on with it but, after a bit of time, actually find you like it. The inverse can also be true though.
