Dear all

I would be very grateful to everyone who would help me to confirm the authenticity of the Vintage Stratocaster demonstrated in the pictures. I know only the fact that the body of the guitar has been re-colored and the original black plastics were replaced by the white. What should be the reasonable prize for the guitar in US?

With kind regards,

Gleb

Can't see photo , I must download, I will not .

Post pictures here in the forum .

Most of the time a real '77 value is not more the $2000 if 10/10

Sorry, I have no idea how to see those pics. When I click on the link there's a "sign up now" box with a button that says "download this file".

But no way I'm randomly clicking buttons on a site I've never heard of.

If you have pics uploaded to a site, you can embed them directly on a post here so we can see them without having to click on anything.

Your guitar is it a reissue ?

Look in too good shape to be a 41 years old guitar, isn't ?

Reissues don't have round lam fretboards -- they have incorrect slab boards.

But white plastic parts, round ended pickup cavities, and the pure pristine white finish make me suspicious. Even '70s white Fenders that spent their entire life inside the case usually show some yellowing.

I'm really torn. There are things that make me think it's fake, and other things that make me think it might possibly be real.

If real, it's in spectacular condition. Mint.

Does the seller have any proof of provenance? Original sales receipt? Original case candy (gray cable, polishing cloth)?

I'd want an expert to do an in-person appraisal. Not one of Gruhn's "send me pics and money and I'll send you letter saying it appears to be real" so-called appraisals.

I'm confused like strayedstrater - looks good, but somehow too good...
Doesn't that look like a refinish?

I'd guess the "Richardson" is a mark by some previous owner, not a factory mark.

Edit: Gleb, post those other pics, too. The ones above are good, but go only so far - and this one's kinky.

I can upload an archive with more photos of the instrument if you would suggest me some web service, cause I can not attach the photos directly to the post

Black pickguard, black pickup covers, black knobs, and black switch tip were standard on all '77s. Looked hideous on a white body, but that's the '70s. Striped bellbottoms, wide lapels, wide ties, polyester leisure suits, AMC Pacers -- ugly was stylish.

Odd pickguard too -- white top and black bottom? Shielding foil shape is a little wrong, but since it's not a Fender pickguard style I've ever seen that makes sense.
-------------------
The bare ash wood in the neck pocket has darkened significantly, but the paint is as white as virgin snow. Not even any ghosting under the pickguard.
-----------------
But it seems to have the barely-there mid'70s forearm contour.
------------------
Most mid'70s had the slightly squared-off pickup cavities, but Google Images turns up picks with the normal round ends too.

Both neck pocket shapes too. The style on that body, and the style that exactly matches the shape of the neck heel.

Same for gray-bottomed vs black-bottomed pickups.
-------------------
Again, provenance. Does the seller have anything to say about its history? Did the original owner put white plastic on it, then die before he could play it, and his widow never took it out of the case?

Back in the '70s nobody bought new Strats as investments. We were all sure they'd never go up in value. (It still surprises me that they have.) We bought new Strats to play.

And if it was bought as an investment, he wouldn't have changed the plastic parts. Or at least kept them in the case with the guitar.

(The case is in remarkably perfect condition too.)
