Hi I'm looking for a 57 reissue Strat with a c or d shape neck. Preferably black.
The only one I know is the Gilmour signature but that way too much. Budget is about £1500 max less would be better.

I have a black 57 resissue but just can't get on with the neck. (I play a les paul don't know if thats why )Love the way my strat looks. The tanned maple neck. I know its not about cosmetics but want it to look like the one I have. Love the old tuners and bridge not fussed as much on the headstock.

Alternatively I love the Olympic white jimi hendrix plays at Woodstock but would love one like that but with a tanned maple neck. Is the such a model?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The early '57RIs had C necks. That's back when they had the modern wide spaced 12th fret inlays and the slightly incorrect headstock shape. But those may be slightly above your budget goals.

I'm under the impression that Fender Japan '54RIs have C necks.

A Warmoth neck (with all embellishments, finished & tinted; with features similar to the '57-one you have but with a profile you want) would set you back some 350$. Some other (licenced) manufacturers probably even less.
And you'd still have the original neck in case you someday want to sell that Black Strat as an original '57 Reissue.

And then there's the unlimited second hand selection of Fender necks.

On the 'too blond' neck; time is the cure for that...

Cheers for the reply. So changing the neck or getting hold of an earlier model is the way to go? Any other options? Would changing the neck devalue the guitar in any way.
Thanks.

The neck replacement is one option worth considering. I pointed it and the costs out, since a) you seem to like the Black Strat in other aspects, and b) you mentioned the budget aspect.

If your guitar is an American Vintage Stratocaster '57, the resale value will drop noticeably with the neck change - after all, it's a Partscaster while the replacement neck is on. If it's a Japanese model (e.g. ST-57), the price drop is probably smaller.
But: putting the original neck back before selling takes care of this on both.

Yea it's a USA one. Do you mean the early USA ones have C shape neck?

Not sure what to do.

To go off topic a bit might get one of them Olympic white professional Strats but don't like the tuners would 60s or 50s style tuners fit that guitar it's a 70s headstock I think.
And Can you get 60s style use Strat with a maple neck?

How about if you describe what you want in the neck (or whole guitar), it might give more accurate answers. I mean, there's a lot more than the profile to determine how a neck feels. E.g. a C-profile can be thick or thin, and the fretboard radius, frets, edge beveling, finish all play their part...

On the '57 AVRI neck, I remember John C (a distinguished member here & other forums) writing that the V-neck came in 1998, the C (or C-like) was before that.

What exactly do you mean by "60s style" necks? Up until '65/'66 they had small headstocks, then the big head was introduced. They had heel-adjust truss rods all through the '60s. No skunk stripes until '69.

Mid '59 to mid '62, all Strats had slab rosewood fretboards (may have been a few with custom ordered maple fretboards -- a separate piece of maple glued on).

Mid '62 they changed to a curved, round-laminated, veneer fretboard as standard. Maple cap fretboards became optional (again, a separate piece of maple glued to the maple neck). No skunk stripe on any of those necks.

Around '69 the one-piece maple neck returned as an option. And at that point they started putting skunk stripes on all necks (including those with round-lam rosewood boards).

All of these were 21 narrow frets with 7.25" radius.

Rosewood boards continued to be round-lam throughout the '70s and into the '80s. When FMIC bought Fender from CBS they went back to slab rosewood.

tl;dr

So true '60s style maple fretboard necks have glued-on maple fretboards. The Custom Shop has made those, but they're not common.

Highway 1's were available with maple fretboards with the big head, but 22 frets, headstock-adjust truss rod, skunk stripe, medium-jumbo frets, and 1 piece maple. So not really "60s style".

Strats with modern-style tuners have bigger holes for the string posts. You can get conversion-bushings which let you mount vintage-style slotted-post tuners.

I'm happy with 57 reissue in terms of the looks. Don't really know the difference in frets. Want USA made.
Iv tried the C neck on the Olympic white USA pro Strat. It did feel a bit bulky but was way easier to bend the strings on then my 57. I know you can have the neck shaved but know if i could with that model . Think id need to have a few days or hours to get a better feel. I don't think the shop would allow that.
Maybe it's case of some type of compromise.

The 60s tuners are like shaped better like the 50s. That's all I ment really. Don't like the modern tuners or bridges.

If I went 60s style might broaden my options. The guitar I'm after doesn't seem to exist. Need to more research I think.

I'm not fussed on headstocks.

Think it may be best to try a few different Strat out get better I understanding.
