Hello folks,
I was a offered a deal for an American Deluxe V-Neck 2009 the S/N starts with DZ9.
The only extraordinary things are that it doesn't have a S1 switch and pickguard was replaced by a white one while the original seemed to be gold.
I did some research and seen that every deluxe came with the switch since 2004, so that makes me think this is either a counterfeit or was somehow modified.
It seems a too good to be truth deal for 800 bucks.
What do you think?

With no picture, what can we say if fake or not ?

It could be a mod with quality parts too. You have to look under the pickgard.
If sellers can't give you good answer and picture, I won't buy it .

There a lots of great guitar on market at great price.

The previous owner was not happy with the fancy wiring and swapped the stock gold vinyl guard for a regular white.

Understandable.
Thankfully, the only mod that I did to my '78 Strat was to swap the bridge pickup to an SDS-1.
My next two guitars got modded with all of the series/parallel/phasing options a 20 year old electronics student could think of.
Never used a one of them, not even the coil tap.

Not all V-Neck Deluxes came with a gold vinyl guard.

Image

2-Colour Sunburst: white

Black, Candy Apple Red: gold vinyl

White Blonde: copper

All pickguards were 1-ply with beveled edges.

There was even more variation.
The service diagrams:
From SD/2004: 2TSB with Mint, 3Ply; Black and CAR with Gold Metallic; Honey Blonde with Copper Metallic.
From SD/2010: Tortoise 4Ply; Mint 3Ply, B/W/B 3Ply.
(And then there may have been the FSR/Limited/&such versions.)

But as said, the pics are a must for any real help.
