I'm debating what guitar to get, the 1962 American Vintage or the 1962 Vintage Hot Rod.
I'd much prefer the American Vintage because its basically a replica of a '62 one, but I'm worried about getting fret buzzing and dead notes because of its 7.25 radius. And I'v also heard that its harder to bend the strings on a small radius and I use .11 strings (.12's soon) but I'm not sure whether thats true?
I'd also like the Vintage Hot Rod because I know I wouldn't get fret buzzing and dead notes because of the 9.5 radius, but I'm not sure about the thicker neck because I like to use my thumb alot.
It'd be great if you could 'elp me out 'ere :wink:

Hey, I think the only way for you to figure this out is to get yourself to a store and try both guitars and decide which is best for you, I'll throw you a curve ball though, the SRV has a 12" radius and a thinner neck than the Hot Rod and is in the same price range :twisted:

i have a '62 re-issue in oly white and let me tell you this...i read those same reviews you did and had the same reservations...

that being said would i trade mine in for a hot rod?
thats a tough one...

lets put it this way...if you can swing the hot rod get it in sherwood green and hold onto that thing for dear life...

i dont regret getting my guitar...on the contrary i love it...but if i had to make the decision again??
that "thin-skin" is a good selling point...
also whats an extra couple hundred dollars for the upgrade if youre gonna spend $1400 to begin with?

if you got the regular re-issue though you will not be disappointed...i know i am not!

I have three American Fender Straocasters:

An American Deluxe- Great playing guitar however the pick ups and S-1 switching aren't to my liking so they will soon be replaced.

A John Mayer Signature- Not a single complaint from this guitar.

A 62 Reissue- This is my most played guitar. I love the neck, the tone and the vintage pick ups. Not real issues with fret buzz but I also don't have my action set up like a Jackson either. I also can bend strings with no issues of dead strings. Of course I had my local Fender dealer set it up properly and to my liking after owning it for two months. Now I have a hard time putting it down.

Sounds to me like you want the 1962 American Vintage to me.
But I think you should definately play them both (but they will have 9's on them lol).

Hello Jimmy.Ponti,

I got my '62 Hotrod
last month {4th of july sale}

That guitar is a tone monster
and has become my #1 {I own 4 strats}

The neck is quite large which is
good for me but some feel the opposite.

Nitro body and neck
so care should be exercised

Cheers.
