It is claimed that was one of his favorite strats he burned.

Ummmm............sorry, that's not the one that he burned. Watch the actual burning, you'll see what I mean. Oh, and btw, the sign next to the guitar says that it is one owned by the Zappa family.

Something I found strange that I would like to share.

I've always associated Jimi with Fender Stratocaster with the maple fingerboards. But last months Guitar World Magazine has a special issue dedicated to him and all the pictures show Jimi player Strats with rosewood fingerboards.

The guitar that was givin to Zappa was just a burned body and a old neck that was after the Under Ground Pop Festival but Hendrix did not burn a guitar there that was just a rumor. Zappa had the body and neck put together then a few years he had the neck and electronics replaced and someone named Bobby Robles bought the neck . Zappa later tried to buy the neck back to reunite body and neck but could not do it. Dweezil has tried to sell it at aution twice and it has not sold.

Thanks, bluestube.

Miami it was ...

I wonder how much is left from the original guitar -- just the body?

I'll have to do some more research ... I think I may have an old magazine that tells the story about that guitar ...

According to (Touched by Genius) It was just a gift to Zappa that they don't even no where the neck and body come from. And that Hendrix gave it to Zappa when they both played at the Under Ground Festival in Florida on May 18,1968 it givin to Zappa by Hendrix roadie. The Hendrix Magazine Univibes revealed it was a burnt Strat body and another Strat neck that was in bad shape. They also say he did not burn a guitar at that festival that it is just a popular myth.

Hendrix didn't always play Stratocasters though. This is circa '65 when he was with The Isley Brothers :

He started out using rosewood fingerboards but then in 1969 and '70 he liked to use maple fingerboards on stage but he still liked to use rosewood boards when he was recording because he liked the sound of them.

I'v seen him play all these guitars; His first electric guitar was a Supro Ozark. He then had a Silvertone Danelektro which he nicknamed "Betty Jean". When he started to gig, he traded his Danelektro for an Epiphone Wilshire. While he was playing with the Isley Brothers he got a 1959 Fender Duo Sonic and with Little Richard, a Fender Jazzmaster and then he finally got a stratocaster.
