I'm trying to rewire my MIM strat according to the wiring diagram for the American Elite Strat but I'm having trouble finding the correct super switch. Here's the diagram:

http://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Original/10001/Fender%20American%20Elite%20Stratocaster%200114000000%20Service%20Manual%20REV%20A%2010-26-15.pdf

In the diagrams it shows a combination between a standard 5-way switch and the superswitch which you can see here:

http://darrenriley.com/store/fender-5-way-switch-discretecom-0078776000/

The switch that I have is like this:

http://darrenriley.com/store/fender-5-way-super-switch-0992251000/

I can't find the correct one for this diagram without having to pay double the price for a third-party switch and I suspect that the switch I have could be wired to accomplish the same thing but I am having trouble figured out the exact wiring to accomplish it. Does anyone know if there is a replacement for part number 0078776000 which is in the diagram above? If not are there any wiring diagrams that show the same setup with the switch that I have?

Also, I'm wondering what Fender actually uses for the super switch in the latest American Elite Strats. Does anyone have one or know which switch is used?

The super switch you have is a 4 wafer switch ; each wafer have one common and 5 contacts ( 5 ways)
The switch you need and show on fender wiring diagram use 3 wafers .

With your Super Switch you have one wafer more , you can do same job as Fender wiring diagram show.
You need a volunteer to sketch the wiring :(

Do you'll use master volume with S-1 switch ?

I'd just finish a wiring with 3 Dimarzio pickups ( HSS) with a super switch, wath a headhache

Have you considered buying a loaded pickguard? I have a nice MIM Strat and now you have me thinking about a nice upgrad like this one:

https://stratosphereparts.com/fender-am ... -usa-tort/

What say you?

Yes, the normally available Superswitch can do more than the OEM switch, the issue is whether or not the OEM switch has shorting contacts or non-shorting contacts.
The commercially available Superswitch has non-shorting contacts, so it requires at least 2 wafers to provide the same operation as the original style 5-way.

Having 4 sets of contacts, I'm sure the available switches can duplicate the operation.
I'll take a look at it when I have some time and see if I can figure it out.

Maybe, but it would be twice as good. If the guitar has a good neck and fingerboard, and he likes it overall, why not?

Half price or a MIM

What's he going to have "invested" in this project?
Superswitch ($25), S-1 Switch/Pot ($25), knob and cap ($10)
I can't find the Elite pickups, but a set of 3 Duncan "Rails" is about $230.....

I want to see a show of hands from anyone who hasn't put $200 worth of pickups into a $150 Korean guitar

This could be the part but you probably know that.
http://www.stratcat.biz/007-8776-000c.shtml
It is not quite like the super switch of old which is maybe what you have.
You could dig out an old deluxe wiring diagram but you will an S1 as well :D

Hey brother, you seem to be dead set against spending some money to upgrade an inexpensive guitar. Why is that?

Nice site chromeface. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

1- It is because when a low cost guitar need so much money, this mean it is the wrong guitar for you.
Better to sell it and buy the one you like when listening.

2- Before do the mod , you are not sure you will like it, you may spend money for poor result or not the best result you can find.

Hi guys, thanks for all the feedback. I wasn't keeping up with it yesterday and already a lot of responses.

So, yeah, I could have just taking the money that I'm spending in doing the upgrades and probably bought something a bit nicer but the reality is that you're talking about buying something in the $1000-$1500 range to buy something new instead of spending $200-$300 to upgrade a guitar that I got as a gift about 15-20 years ago. It might be easier to go out and by something new but a few hundred dollars is a lot easier to swing than over a thousand.

Regardless, I'm not necessarily doing the upgrades just for the end result. I want to learn more about how guitars are built from a technical standpoint and so I'm using this as an experiment to see what I can do myself to upgrade a guitar that I'm not too worried about messing up. Between shielding it, refinishing it, and rewiring it I will most certainly spend more than the guitar is worth but I get to learn something new and maybe even have a nice little guitar when I'm done.

As for the switch, I actually talked to the shop that I linked above and they're saying that they should be getting some of those switches in stock in a May and since I've still got some detail work to do on the finish that will take a bit longer I might just wait it out and see. In the meantime, I'll probably try to figure out the wiring with the switch that I already have. I'm sure it can do it and I recall having sketched it out once already but, of course, I misplaced the schematic so I'll try again.

Yes doing mod it is a good way to learn about guitar,
First you have to learn how to solder and practice with pièces of scrap .

Without knowing how to solder, you are going in trouble and you may ruin the switch.

No need to pay $1000 to $1500 for a better guitar. You can find a second hand one for $750 , a American Standard.
