as you all ponder buying outside of america ask yourself if you would like to keep your job or would it upset you if there was a forum discussing sending your job down to mexico. you may want to save for a couple more weeks and buy american. it is a small price to pay for trend that may someday save the job that puts food on YOUR tabel. i am proud of the fact i own an american strat and am glad fender still makes them here. i wish i could find a pair of shoes that were.

ps - im not just a flag waver. i work for an American manufacturer.

fender went to Mexico to make a profit ,they did not go to loose money .buy American , show me a company that is worried about America more than their bottom line

Agreed -- I work for a Fortune 500 company where all my employees under me are now in Bangalore, India making about 1/3 what we would pay an American regular full-time worker. I get that. But the point he was trying to make is that by purchasing American-made products, we are supportiung our fellow American workers. That is ... by purchasing Fender's American-made products, we are giving their management a reason to keep them employed.

This all coming from a MIM owner... Ooops.

Not everyone here is from America and American jobs are not really a concern for us when buying something...and quite frankly the rest of us know that there are quality products manufactured around the world...I know it's hard for you folks to believe, but it's true.

Ummmm, okayyyy. This discussion is already off the rails in confusion. I'll be off to that fret dressing thread ...

Old guitar maxim: you pay 100 percent more for a 10 percent improvement in quality / sound / etc.

That means that the MIM is the better deal; the MIA is the better instrument.

But there's folks here will give good arguments against evey word of that...

Cheers - C

Very interesting statistic. I've always taken the approach to "buy the best that you can afford." If money isn't an issue... the extra 100% in price won't matter and you won't regret having the better instrument. If money IS an issue... shop around.

For me the best deal was a Jimmy Vaughan Tex Mex start as it has american wiring, upgraded pups and was still quite a bit cheaper that an MIA strat (got it on sale for $530 cdn).
