Old guitar maxim: you pay 100 percent more for a 10 percent improvement in quality / sound / etc.

That means that the MIM is the better deal; the MIA is the better instrument.

But there's folks here will give good arguments against evey word of that...

Cheers - C

You know... you're right... why pay half a grand for a guitar that isn't so great when you could pay just a few hundred more and get a good instrument that will last a lifetime! Thanks man! :D

I dont know maybe it's just me but I will always take a MIA over MIM any day. After pokeing around here for a while I understand I may be in the minority here. And I realize that just because it's mia that dosnt mean it's much better quality. But the one true fact is that the MIA will always retain and increase in value as I think that is not so with the MIM.I dont know to me Fender is an American Icon like Baseball applepie and Chevrolets. But thats just me

I voted MIM because MIJ strats aren't easy to get here in the US. When you add the shipping costs from Japan, it doesn't make them such a good value, though they are fine instruments.

Well Im glad I can be of some help.Like I said thats my humble opinion.Like it's been said on these forums before were fortunate to live in a time where we have so many Fender Strats to choose from that it's pretty easy to get a well built quality MIA Strat without breaking the wallet.I know for me when I look at a Strat one of the first things I do is to see where its made

There is no question that the MIMs can be a bad-@&% guitar that can far exceed ANY novice instrument (mine certainly does). For what the MIMs cost, they are an absolute steal. But the MIAs are great, too. The MIAs will have also some more features, some better ingredients here and there, and will definitely hold value over a comparable MIM.

Both are great deals, in my opinion... Which is the better deal depends on the individual.

Seems to me that there are two 'better deal' criteria floating around here.

One, the MIM appears to be the 'better deal' if you are planning on buying a quality instrument to play and are more interested in what is the best quality to price ratio I can get, RIGHT NOW, with no future expectations down the road.

Two, the MIA appears to be the 'better deal' if you fall into the camp that is buying a guitar as an 'investment' and are more concerned about what you can get for it later on down the line.

To me, the 'better deal' for a 'playable now' guitar is the MIM with the MIA providing me with the 'better opportunity' to recoup my cost down the line should I decide to sell.

Well I have no plans on selling my guitar and certainly didn't buy a Highway 1 as an investment.Speaking just for me I'd rather go American for just about the same amount.I bought my guitar from my uncle in mint condition for $550 bucks, so spending that much on a MIM was just not a thought.Even non Stratocaster geeks know that if it's made in America it's probably a better made guitar.I also have a Taylor acoustic and would never consider buying one made in mexico if Taylor opened up a factory there,I know that comes off kinda snobish but like I said thats just my preference.

from what i understand the mexican strats are built in mexico to keep cost down these strats use the same components as their american counter part ,except they are assemble in mexico i own both american and mexican and both perform great, and by the way how many young guitarist coming up today can afford a $1200 strat, that the reason behind these mexican strats AFFORDIBILTY. 8)

Interesting pics...I'm not sure it proved anything...but cool none the less.

My 2 cents...My strat is MIM and since having it I have put in Texas Specials, added vintage pickgaurd, vintage knobs/pu covers, had the tremelo nulified by adding extra springs, and added Fender locking tuners. I have also had it professionally setup. Total bill was about $750.

So for less than the cost of a MIA I have exactly the guitar I want and would put it up against any strat. Which brings me to resale, since I have created my own special monster, I can't see selling it.

Thats my 2 cents.

BTW was the Fender factory tour free or was it very expensive?

I think what the tour proved was that mim strats are not just simply assembled in Mexico but Made in Mexico.BTW does that $750 include the cost of guitar also
