Hi,

I just saw this advertisement:

Fender's Super 3250's Dura-tone Coated electric guitar strings combine the high output and dynamic sound of steel with the smooth feel of nickel.

Are Super Bullets 3250 coated now? Or have they always been?

I know you can still get the Super Bullet 3250's as a Nickel Plated Steel...so a "Dura-Tone Coated" 3250 is a new option that I haven't ran across yet...but apparently NOT a replacement of the original.
Either way; I use the 3150's---just prefer the sound of Pure Nickel.

From an ad I saw:

"The Fender Dura-Tone Coated Guitar Strings are made with a specially applied micro-treatment that resists tone-killing grime and corrosion."

I didn't know they were coated. I've always thought they were uncoated.

Bullets and Super Bullets were introduced in the '70s and certainly weren't coated back then.

It's been 5 years or so since I bought a set, and those weren't coated.

Google suggests that both coated and uncoated are currently available.

It's possible they may be phasing out the uncoated and replacing them with uncoated.

I've tried both and can't hear the difference through the amp. Just curious to see the ad Dura-Tone coated on my reorder.

That said, I can hear the difference between coated and uncoated on my acoustics. I prefer uncoated.

Update: I wrote to Fender and got a reply;

The Fender 3250 Nickel Plated Steel Super Bullets are not covered in the Dura-Tone coating.

You can see the various sizes available on our website, and there is no mention of a coating on these strings.

The only Dura-Tone coated strings currently in the Fender line are the Coated 80/20 Bronze acoustic guitar strings.
