Hi, welcome. Sorry for the late answer; the forum's first post delay seems to have hit you hard.

The MIA, E4-serial instruments are a bit tricky. Those were made during a long period;1984ish to 1988ish. FMIC had a bunch of the numbers, and wanted to waste not, want not.
So, an accurate timing needs details; electronics, markings in the neck pocket/neck end/routings, etc.

On the value. Of course, it depends on the specific model and condition.
But do not sell any authentic US-made eighties Strat model for a mere 200$.
The 800$ could be a starting point for standard models, but low for the à la carte -models. At least where I live.

Pics would help further.

It's not a good time to be selling vintage gear right now (according to a few vintage
appraisers). Have a high and low amount in mind and don't rush because it may take
time but eventually the right buyer will come along. Good luck!

Vintage gear is kind of like motor-toys.
When times get tight, they’re the first things people stop purchasing and those who have them already, try to sell.
It’s an unfortunate reality that only when you can best afford to keep those things is the best time to sell them and when you can least afford them is the best time to buy them.

It’s a hard lesson for the average Joe to learn but when times are flush is not the time to spend money. I know so many people who end up in dire straits because they made a major purchase when times were good.

Is eighties stuff already vintage?
Shiver me timbers, that makes me antique - and not even near mint...

No kidding!
The "Vintage thing" pretty much started in the late 80s and early 90s... baby boomers who could now afford to have things they wanted when they were kids, or things their parents had. It's a whole nostalgia thing.

CBS Fender and Norlin Gibson were generally though of as not worth the "investment" and anything from post-Fullerton Fender was too new to consider!

Without seeing the actual guitar, speculation is pointless. It could be a Squier with a fake decal on it for all we know.

If it is all original and in the original case, that really adds to desirability.

Is it me, or does it seem that there are more and more threads about uncles that have passed lately, leaving guitars to relatives?

It's not just you, I've noticed it too. If you look back several months you will see post after post like this one, if it's not a dead relative, it is a "friend who has a old Stratocaster". Each time it is someone with less than ten posts, many times it is a first post.

People die (it is the only thing in life that can be guaranteed; that and taxes) and the Strat has been around long enough, and there are enough examples out there, that finding one in the possession of a departed loved one probably isn't an unusual occurrence.

I know nothing about Gibsons (aside knowing I don't want one) so if I found one in the effects of a departed lost Uncle I would probably also post on the official Gibson forum (assuming there is one) to ask about it.

In many respects I would much rather a loved one benefit from a valuable instrument than a band of house clearers make a killing after giving next to nothing for it. I appreciate that house clearers provide a service, and I further accept that they are more often than not confronted with a house full of worthless tat but, to me, a musical instrument is a much more personal item, valuable or not.

It would be cool to inherit a great guitar, although maybe bittersweet that a loved one passed.

With the OP being a 3-week no show, we might not ever know. :?:

Could be a few different things going on here. As jmattis has mentioned (and he's explained it to me in another thread), there seems to be a "delay" in new member's 'first post'.

1). New member posts a question...hits submit....goes back to forum index....doesn't see their post....moves on to another site to pose their question....never returns to this site.

2). New member posts a question....gets no answer "immediately"....and says screw it, and moves on.

3). New member posts a question....gets an answer they don't like....silently calls us all morons....and looks for a place to find an answer they can live with.

4). New member posts a question....gets the answer they're looking for....leaves without saying "good-bye" or "thank you".

5). New member posts a question....and forgets they even been here.

Regardless; it IS annoying as hell whatever the problem or excuse is.

GREAT LIST White Dog!!
I'd only add the one for old age, tried to come back and couldn't remember the password then tried to re-up to be told the user already exists and to try again.

You guessed it. Yes I'm a first time poster and I inherited this guitar. This year it will be 20 years since my dad passed away which is how my sister and I inherited his 1961 Fender Stratocaster Sunburst with original case. I'm looking to sell it but not sure if this will make you laugh or slam me but I don't want to sell to just anyone. From what I have read or been told, some people actually disassemble to sell part by part. I would love to sell to a person who will enjoy playing the guitar as much as my dad did. This forum is really helpful though. Since we are not in a hurry to sell we will continue to read these forums. Plus it's not easy finding a great way to sell it cuz who do you trust?
