Sadly, John and his Strat taken the day he died. You can find a bigger picture of this shot contained in the "John Lennon collection" released in 1982 as the inner sleeve for the record.

Seeing this picture kind of gives me that weird, sad, sort of sick feeling in my stomach. Hard to explain... Thanks for posting the Beatles pics, folks.

On the accuracy of the Gallagher guitar reproduction: we've got to remember that was done in the earlier days of the replica quest. By the latest standards of verisimilitude achieved by the Custom Shop it is primitive - but then I guess at that point they were trying to give a general "idea" of the original, rather than a scratch for scratch facsimile. I can remember reviewers gasping with amazement over the achievement of that Tribute guitar at the time (while the rest of us tried to get our heads around the whole notion of stalking a player in this way).

The wrong number of holes on the pickguard really is a bit sloppy, though.

Two notes:

1) Fender now does the original 11-hole pickguard on the repro.

2) Since it was considered "primitive" why doesn't Fender start doing a better job now that they're considered to be more experienced with reproductions of famous Fenders?

Interesting. If they are now putting the right pickguard on it perhaps the bodywork is getting more authentic, too, as time goes by. Am I looking in the wrong place - I can't find the Rory Gallagher Sig on this site at the moment. Was it a limited edition? Perhaps it just isn't being made any more. :?:

Anytime, glad you like them. There are not many pics of the Beatles using Fenders, especially in the early days. John and George both received '61's for free. Rumor has it John kept his and used it from time to time, and on the Imagine sessions. George painted his and it became "Rocky"
I would love to find more Beatle pics. I think George used a Strat on the All You Need is Love TV special, but I can not be certain. I did not find much on McCartney. I can only imagine he played them, but I can find no pics as of yet. I am working on it though:)

My information is that during the Rubber Soul sessions in 1965 John and George sent roadie Mal Evans out to obtain a couple of Strats because they wanted a more Beach Boys sound. He came back with a pair of 1962 Strats in Sonic Blue. As you say, George famously painted his; nobody knows what happened to John's. I can't swear to the accuracy of the source of that info, though.

Apparently, there is more in Andy Babiuk's book, Beatles Gear - which I don't have.

Fender did a tribute to that Sonic Blue "Beatles" '62:

An example came up on Ebay and I bid on it: highest bidder but reserve not met. I can't find out anything about that reissue guitar, either. I have a notion that it was one of Fender's "Europe only" issues - but that might be wrong. I don't know if it was MIM or MIA, or when it came out - or anything else. Anyone?

I was just pursuing it because I like the color...

Excellent: thanks, man.

Well, the right number of screws on the 'guard, but the body looks even less like the original than the one posted a couple of pages back, wouldn't we say?

But then there is something very odd about that picture all together. It almost looks like a Photoshop montage. A clean body with scraps of paint superimposed over it - or are my eyes deceiving me?

Right!

There's a gentleman around here somewhere that will know for sure. [Calling] Bra-a-ad? Hey, Brad - are you people putting Photoshopped Strats on the products pages...?

Well, if there wasn't a real one handy when photography was being done...

And they would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for us pesky kids!

Check out this website:

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... %26hl%3Den

Search on D065. I have never seen this poster before, but I found it when I was trying to find a bigger picture of what Pink posted.
