Well, I have that free Carvin DVD and there is a part that shows pages from their old catalogs. Their headstocks were all over the place; Gibson type, Tele- and Strat-style.

Well done!

The thing I found most curious was all of the electric mandolins Carvin offered back in the '50s. Even Fender offered one at the end of the '50s, so it must have been popular for a short time.

Yes, that mid-'50s Carvin is a guitar only a mother could love.

Back to Jeff Beck. This guitar of his:Image was given limited edition treatment by Fender Japan. The other year, they put out 50 Fender Japan Historic Jeff Beck Stratocasters (model HST-72JB). It is based on a 1972 Strat of Jeff's with cut-off pickguard (to improve the sonic qualities I guess) that he played quite a bit in the 1975-1977 period.

In this picture it has a '50s neck, but I have seen pictures with its original rosewood big headstock 1972 neck (which is what the HST-72JB has). If you want to see/buy one of these, you might find one at a Japanese retailer by Googling "HST-72JB".

This raises a question in my mind: what other Historic Stratocasters has Fender Japan put out? The only other HST model I've found is a Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) model.

I have to ask this question of those who have seen it. It being a "Hendrix guitar" is it strung correctly?

The one I saw years back at the Original Hard Rock Cafe in London, they had a "Hendrix Strat" that was given by Jimi to one of his roadies or friends (memory is a little shaky since it was almost 10 years ago) that his friend had re-strung "correctly" to make it a right handed player, and the whole time I'm drooling over this guitar in the case, my only thought is "I want to break it open to string it for left-handed play".

I believe it is strung correctly for Jimi ... i.e., a lefty could play it.

Speaking of Jimi, here is the Hendrix Finsbury Astoria Burnt Strat that was recently on the auction block:

No pic of Rory Gallagher on this thread. Let's put that right: that's a slightly famous Strat, after all... - C

Eh? It's filling my screen - I had to resize it down just to remove the horizontal scroll bar. Ohmygod - are these things displaying differently on different computers? Hell's teeth: what do I do to put that right...?

Not until September? They have certainly given it enough lead time.
I found the link to the pictures at your thread. I just thought the pictures should appear in this Famous Strats thread.

----------------------

Ceri, on my screen, the Rory pic is only the size of an avatar. ???

Indeed, it does belong here in this thread. What a find, eh? I could never afford a Hendrix Strat, but maybe one day I could just hold one... ya' know, take in some of his mojo maybe. Ha! :D

[Scratching head] Well, suddenly I'm right back at the stage of the folks who ask how to post pictures. At Photobucket I sized that image to 130 pixels wide, because that has seemed to produce tollerably sized images other times.

But when I right-click on the image as it displays on this page, and select properties, it gives the dimensions as over 1000 pixels wide. So what I do at Photobucket seems to have no relation to how the picture ends up here.

And, as I say, if anything, it looks slightly too big on my screen. Much bigger than other images on this page. What gives?

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong, I'd be glad to hear. Cos right now I'm feeling like a confused five year old...

Bemusedly - C

The Rory picture is perfectly sized now.
What did you do?

Got a good picture of the Against the Grain album cover?
There's a close up of THE guitar!

Er... I don't know?!? I deleted it from Photobucket and reuploaded it, and edited in the new tagged link to the post above. But far as I could tell I did everything the same - so none the wiser. I need one of my ten year old nephews to explain it all to me...
