I always thought they should do a tribute moive, live Walk the Line, etc for Jimi. I think Prince could pull it off.

I read somewhere that there was actually talk of this in recent years - but it never went through because of blockages from the Hendrix Family Estate. However, it was Andre 3000 from Outkast that was prepping for the role of Jimi (among others)...

From a 2005 article:

JIMI HENDRIX Estate Refuses To Allow Guitarist's Music To Be Used In Biopic - Jan. 4, 2005

According to ContactMusic.com, OUTKAST star Andre 3000's dreams of bringing Jimi Hendrix's life story to the big screen have been dealt a bitter blow — the rock great's estate won't allow his music to be used in the film.

Andre, real name Andre Benjamin, fears the Hendrix biopic will remain unmade because movie-makers will never gain the rights to use the guitar great's songs.

He says, "I've heard that Will Smith wanted to do it (the film) at one time, Laurence Fishburne; Eddie Murphy had wanted to do it in the beginning of his career.

"There's been a lot of scripts to try to make it happen, but nothing can go on.

"I can go and make a Hendrix film right now, but I could not use any Hendrix songs that he wrote in the film."

That really kills me because and is a complete shame, and I could be wrong that the Guitar Hero game got rights to some of Jimi's songs. A video game, but no life story?

I could not think of a better movie to make, especially in light that we are coming up on the 40th anniversary for Woodstock. His story is LONG overdue.

Personally I agree with you in a way - but I also fear the film being poorly made. Who knows why the new Guitar Hero was granted use permission but, as of yet, no scripts have passed the test - it could come down to a matter of opinion from the Family... and sometimes their judgement is questionable, from what I have read.

I am just happy that there are plenty of documentaries about Hendrix out there to check out. I particularly enjoy the 70's documentary A Film About Jimi Hendrix and the documentary that is included on the Band of Gypsys DVD.

One thing I believe, and I am sure most will agree, you can never have too much Hendrix. :D

Great bumper sticker

"You can never have too much Hendrix" or "Got Hendrix?"
