So clearly on the EJ Strat it serves no purpose other than decorative.... why not just paint the F holes? Would save a lot of time, effort, trouble and cost... or why bother at all?

Chambering the body will reduce weight and is something they do on some Les Pauls for that reason.

As we have said before, the whole guitar works as a system, so there will be some acoustic differences with a chambered body over a solid body. How notable that will be, and how it manifests itself, I don't know.

I like the idea of a chambered Strat because it should be light (or lighter). I don't like the F hole though.

Looks cool .. probably pricey .. but Cool .. aaand he still sounds a lot like EJ .. hehe

Eric sure talks loopy .. I think he's just trying to honestly relate his own unique experience

I wouldn't entirely discount being high either ..

Interesting thread Mike .. caught my eye because I wanted (& bought) the EJ 2tsb solid body for a build ..

Really good Pups & quality Bridge .. but I'm puttin' spare parts on the bay these days ..

Point is, according to Eric on the Marketing video, it's the same Pups, Neck & the other bits on a chambered body with an F-hole .. !?!

You might ask Xhefri about Warmoth chambered bodies .. I believe that he's happy with them

Making a Warmoth chambered body

Nice to see y'all again!

Just more blasphemous bullshit from a company whose R&D team wouldn't make it at Apple, Tesla, or Samsung.

They should call it the Excreta-Caster.

Hello Arjay!!!

I have been away over the holidays and missed your return, it's good to see you back!!

My day just got better.

Arjay's been back for a while, Omar.
He's just selective about what he responds to.

I have a chambered Strat.
It's my Partsocaster.
The body was ordered special from Warmoth and one of the options I specified was chambering.
There are no F-Holes.
I notice no discernible weight reduction but that could be due to the fact the edges are squared off Aerodyne style, thus having a little more wood in those areas.
I notice no discernible difference in tone that can only be ascribed to chambering.
For about a year I had a Fender DH1 at the bridge position and it sounded remarkably like my '98 AD Fat Strat which is equipped with the same pup, when both guitars were played using bridge only.
Both guitars are ash bodied and have AD necks with rosewood.
I have since swapped out all 3 pups so the guitar does have a different voice now.

It should be noted I have a decent ear for these things.

Do you have Warmoth's "chambering" (honeycomb) or their "hollowbody" (big continuous internal open spaces, what every other company calls "chambering")?

Either way, their chambering/hollowbody options are more like Gibson's "traditional"/"modern" weight relief than something like a Tele Thinline. The sides, top, and bottom are all thick -- more about a slight weight reduction than resonance.

But even the Tele Thinline and presumably the EJ are a lot more "solid" than an ES335 or similar semi-hollow. Might be a little easier to get controllable feedback than a solidbody, but not a huge dramatic tonal difference.

Honeycomb.

Any weight reduction that does not cause a change to stiffness or hardness or material type should theoretically have an affect on resonance.

Tis all a bit of a black art perhaps as a pocket will be a change in material in so far as it is swapping wood for air.

I am thinking it is the main centre rib of the body that does the majority of the work and the side wings are mainly there to make it comfortable to play. If the sides had much influence then a guitar would sound different (over and above playing style) if hung from a strap standing up or without when played sitting down. Even the type of strap might change the resonance of the upper horn....if the upper horn made much difference at all.

All said, I had never given much thought to a Warmouth body. I am giving a chambered body some serious consideration now I have seen how it is made.

Yah .... I don't see that being of any consequence.
Air is about the least stiff thing there is.
I don't see it transmitting anything to the wood at all at the extremely low acoustic volume of a solid body.
I don't see the chamber being anything except a structurally rigid void.
Air does not become part of the construction material.
If you are brave enough to go there expect debates on tone-gas.
"I got nitrogen because it's brighter and has more sustain."
"I got argon because it is sonically inert."
"I got air because there's no upcharge and I don't believe there's a difference."

I think the wings, if you can call them that on a non-neck-through, play a role.
They have mass and length and they have angles for reflection and/or dissipation rates.

Expect to pay dearly compared to other sources but you get exactly what you want without compromise.
